I'm uner the impression that the fob has to be in the car to drive for any amount of distance...it just makes sense to me. Some people were telling me, based off their experience with other cars, that once the car is started it can drive without the remote in/by the car. Is that the case with this car?

Yes. It will drive as far as it can before it turns off. Then you won't restart it without the fob.

My brother drove a mile away from the house with my holding the fob and had zero issues.

True!! It won't turn off on it's own at all! Just need it to start the car.

When I first learned this, I was disappointed. But it makes sense - can you imagine if the battery in the fob died one day while you were driving? The car would just shut off, maybe as you were pulling into high speed traffic. That could be very bad!!!

Good point. Or, husband starts car for wife on icy morning, forgets to take fob out of car, wife skids off the road and...........................
