New to the Murano and Nissan, so be patient!

Love the smart key feature, but our Murano only came with one. It was used, so I'm betting I could find the mate on eBay...

What's the deal, can I buy one on eBay and program it, or can only a dealer program it? Is one from eBay okay to use? Tired of stealing it from my wife every time I want to drive the car...

Thanks guys!

If you bought your car from the dealer, you can ask for another key just like what I did. It's free.

You can't program it yourself. It is a computerized process that only the dealer can do. You can probably find one on ebay, but like mentioned above, you should have gotten two of them.

We had two with our Mo. I'd go back to the dealer and make sure he supplies the second unit and it works.

Apparently my dealer sucks. We went in to finalize things yesterday and they wouldn't even entertain the idea...

"Yeah, used cars only come with what we get when we get them. Those are expensive, you wouldn't want to buy one. Just use the regular key that came with it..."

Um, doesn't that defeat the purpose of having SmartKey tech? Lame. I'm going to call the other Nissan dealer in the area and ask about it.

Sounds like I'm going to get one off of eBay -- how much is the programming cost?

My dealer said $40 to program a smartkey. I bought mine off ebay (make sure the FCC # matches) I'm getting mine programmed 1/23/10, I will let you know how it turns out.

Yeah yeah, let me know. That would be awesome. I'm not going to be able to get one until after that anyway (new job + travel = crazy schedule), but knowing how it went would be great!

Well badman, what was the outcome? Did it work?

I guess a followup question -- can I use a SmartKey from another Nissan? My friend just sold his 2007 Maxima -- if the numbers match can we get it reprogrammed?

I purchased a smart key from a seller on ebay for $15.25 that included shipping. I made sure the numbers matched before purchase as I have bought key fobs in the past that worked. Anyway the dealer reprogrammed the Smart key and cut the inside key for me for $50 (steep for labor only) but it worked like a charm. I took the battery out of the new remote and hid it inside the vehicle and hid the key outside. This way if I lose the keys I can always retrieve the hidden key and get the smart key, install it in the slot, and be on my way. Lots of piece of mind there.

Hide that Intelligent key inside the car well... Even without the battery, if you put the key in the slot on the dash, the car should start!

Yeah, It's hidden well. I took the battery out so the car would not know it is there. That way it does not interfere with locking the car, closing the trunk, etc.
