Will a G35 Smart Key work with a M45? I bought one on craigslist and just found out it was from a G35.

The good news is any infiniti intelligent key should work with any infiniti vehicle.... The bad news is that a tech has to do the initial programming to match it to your specific vehicle... Do a search of the forum. I think the estimates were around $100 to do that.

Oh so the FCC #'s on the back don't matter since the new remote # doesn't match my current remote #'s? I was alittle concerned since some ebay auctions said their remotes were for certain models. I did search and most dealers charge $100 + while a lucky few get it done for free as a courtesy. My local dealer wants $135!!

No, it will not work, you have to get one for an M to use it on an M.

Also, you may ask a Nissan Dealership

Did they have to reprogram your other keys as well to match the one from the G35?

He is NOT right. I know for a fact that any Infiniti Smart key can be reprogrammed for any Infiniti Vehicle and I suspect that ANY Nissan smart key may be used on any Infiniti vehicle as well although I have never witnessed this done.

May I ask how you know this tid bit Smarty pants if it's something you've never seen done?

gibz4, call up your local dealership before you sale it. The source of my information came from 3 people at Infiniti so I felt it was a reliable source. Maybe it can be done, but perhaps it may be more of an involved process.

I've called the dealer and one said yes the other said no. Sounds like they have no clue either... Thats why i wanted to test it out the forums to see if people had any experience with it.

That's "Mr. Smarty Pants" to you.... Perhaps I wasn't clear - I have never personally seen a Nissan Smart Key re-programmed to be used on an Infiniti vehicle - however the technology is identical so I don't see why it would not be possible. I HAVE seen an Infiniti key for one model (say a G35) reprogrammed for use on another model (say an M35) on two occassions and one was my own personal car.

The Nats/I-key system has evolved exponentially over the last five years since it debuted in the 03 FX the sensor technology inside the car has evolved and the RFID technology inside the keys has also changed through the years. The 06 M uses a slightly different chip than the 07 G35 sedan and the 06-07 Coupe uses a different system entirely.

However; the keys may be able to be registered to some other cars. I have a test key that I use, the key may indeed be able to be registered but the remote function may not be recognizable to the BCM, rendering the remote basically useless.

Seriously I cannot stress this enough to you guys. When buying new keys don't go for the cheapest thing out there. If something seems to good to be true, trust your instinct. I have seen many people waste lots of money on keys that they scored off Ebay or Craigslist and end up buying a new key and a blade key that is actually cut for their car, so they do not have to pay the programming fee twice. I make NO money off Infiniti parts and have no stake in the company I just hate seeing people fail at saving money. If the system will not recognize your key there is no way to force it, plus these keys are very susceptible to damage from water or abuse.

I bought a key fob with an uncut blade fro my 06 M45 from ebay and had infiniti program it and it works just fine. the fcc number does match so i don't know if it would have any difference if it was different.
