I had to replace the battery on my Intelligent Key after only 6 months. I realize the unit is probably using more power since the car is supposed to recognize it when it's close by, however - is 6 months going to be the life span of a battery in these things?

Does anyone else notice a decreased life span with the Intelligent Key?

It all depends on usage really...my I-key went for 1.5 years until being replaced. If it gets pressed alot in your pocket or you use it a lot manually, then it will die quicker.

I've been lucky I guess. I haven't changed the battery in my key since I bought the car in Nov. 2007. I don't use the fob itself very often, I just push the buttons on the door handles.

I wasn't using the key fob either... until last month when I was unable to use the passenger side push button to lock & unlock.

Then recently the drivers side button also stopped working, add to that the many times the car wouldn't start indicating the key wasn't readable or inside the vehicle. (Which it was)

I was going to take it to the dealership, but on a whim I decided to change the battery in the little bugger first. Now everything works perfectly. Glad the batteries are cheap. :dblthumb:

I've had my Rogue for about 2 years now and have yet to replace the battery. But, I drive only about 6000 miles/year.

I mistakenly replaced my battery once when I thought it was dying, but it turned out my new BlackBerry was interfering with the signal. So I had to stop keeping my keys in the same pocket as my BlackBerry, which solved the problem.

Target sold the replacement size in 2-packs, so I have a spare on hand in glove box.

6 months is way too short. Perhaps the fob buttons are getting pressed while in your pocket?

Mine are now over a year with no problems.

I thought the display would tell when the battery was low in the remote. My G35 told me when the battery was low in the remote through the message system.

I do have a Blackberry, but its on my belt clip and the remote in my pocket. I do keep the key fob on a key hook on a wall inside the house that's next to the garage. Maybe it's "talking" to the Rogue all night long?

I can hear it now.

Key Fob: "I'm here."
Rogue: "I know, I see you."
Key Fob: "I'm still here."
Rogue: "I know, go away."
Key Fob: "Are you still there?"
Rogue: "Yes, go to bed."

Haha, no, the range on the intellikey system is very limited. (a good thing--especially if you've seen the Top Gear episode where they come to America and one of the hosts is in a new Challenger, and the range on the key fob is so great that as they're in a restaurant, another host is able to walk out into the parking lot, start the Challenger up, and then park it in the middle of the street. :chuckle: ) I forget the exact distance, but it's less than 3 feed from any of the door handles. So I highly doubt that's it.

I just replaced mine (battery) for the first time after using the same key for 2.5 years. I'd say that's pretty good? :)

I think the range is 30 inches or so.

I had to replace the battery in the '08 Altima after about 9 months. My '09 G37 is at 11 months now and the batteries in the remotes are still good. There's really no way to know how old the batteries are in the remotes when you get them. The Nissan remotes have all been pretty much identical for several year now & it wouldn't surprise me if some of them are a year old or more before they get taken out of inventory and matched to a car.
