Smart Key-2007 Altima

When I bought my car the salesman told me that the car would shut off if the smart key was removed from the inside of the car for more than a minute or 2. Well, I left the car on one day (not of purpose) for 3 and a half hours while I walked around with the key in my pocket. Did it function correctly or is it not working correctly?

the car does not turn off when the key is removed.

note the car also can still be driven without the key if the car is already on so don't forget to lock your door when you run into the convinient store if you're leaving the car on.
