Smaller alternator for VH?

I'm putting a VH45 into a Mercedes 280SE and a smaller alternator would make clearing the chassis rail much easier.

Does anyone know of an alternator with a smaller body that will fit directly onto the VH?

Check the alternator for a VH41. May be slightly smaller.

Other than that, you'll be running into some risky business there, I suppose.

None will fit directly, but youd have to make a bracket which really isnt a huge deal, IMO. Making a bracket for a new alternator is definitely better than notching the frame.

i ued an alternator from the 240sx in my swap into a 240sx, it is about 1.5 inches smaller in diameter, and works fine too. i had to make a bracket though it was pretty easy.
