I just got an engine swap done to my s13. The motor is a used ka24de. I've got two small problems.

First one is, my power steering pump likes to get really hot. I used the correct lines and everything, but it doesn't seem to like me much. I accidently cracked a line and it suddenly cooled down. Alas, I still dont have p/s and am boggeled about whats going on. Also, does OR should the p/s belt have to run across the water pump? Would it be okay to run a shorter belt from the crank to the waterpump since my power steering is acting up?

Second issue. The motor is used. During and after running the car I see light smoke from around where the header meets the block and/or where the header meets my exhaust. I assume its just old oil burning off or am old worn gasket, but I am not sure and would much rather be safe then sorry. I can't pinpoint the smoke because it all flows up anyway. If anyones got any ideas/solutions, they'd be greatly appreciated.

Oil was on the header and exhaust. Burned away. Still haven't solved the power steering problem though.

You need to bleed your power steering, get a big bottle and turn the car on and running, get someone to pour power steering fluid into the resevoir while you turn the wheel side to side, keep adding fluid until it gets to the recommended level while the car is running. This is what I had to do, because I just finished putting a 92 motor into my 90 like yesterday.

I also had smoke coming from my engine but it turned out that the exhaust bolts needed to be tightened.

Question... did you use the lower radiator hose off the 90? The one with the sensor attached? Because I didnt and either my car is really heating up alot and then cooling off or its just the meter giving a bad reading, not too sure....

I need a new high pressure line to bleed the power steering. Stupid thing cracked on the inside. Theres a metal pipe inside of that rubber one. I'll attempt to return it and see what happens. It was 132 bucks... : ( I did use the 90's lower hose. I cut a short piece and stuck it at the radiator and put the sensor after that followed by the rest of the hose and its destination. THOUGH, my car is heating up a little more than usual too. I was nearly out of coolant today and had to fill with water. Can't figure out where it went. The car doesn't leak or drip ANYWHERE. I am hoping that maybe I just didn't get enough coolant into the passages and such. Question for you: My shifter balloons up and the center counsle gets pretty hot after driving for a while, any ideas? Did I miss a piece?

You have to fill the radiator up with coolent, run your car till the thermostat opens then fill the radiator again and the resevoir.

Thanks. Any ideas on the heat being injected into my cabin?

you do have transmission fluid in the transmission right? make sure all the exhaust bolts are tight (this would also be a reason for smoke off the manifold).

Found it! The black thingy that goes around the inside of the shifter wasn't re installed. THeres no insulation there and all that hot air is getting in. Bastards...
