How much do you think a professional engine swap in a '91 would be, i mean swap a blown KA with another KA with about 65k miles on it. this isnt a thread about what to swap, i just want to know if im going to get ripped or not. thanks guys:D
for just another KA engine it would probably be about $1000 maybe around $1200 if they run into problems and you have to pay for some misc parts/labor. Probably take like 2 or 3 days too. NOTE that doesn't count the engine, just install
i think it will probably cost less than that. I mean SR swaps cost around 1.2k-1.5k. I am pretty sure KA is easier to swap since ur swapping and identical engine to ur previous one. I am guessing under 1k. But dont hold anything i say as a fact. I am just estimating.
ok im going to be charged somewhere around 1900 for the engine, the parts, and the labor for a new ka, this includes tax also. does this sound like a rip off or am i getting off ok?
i will be looking on swapping in another KA once this one craps out too. Probably wont be too long either. I guess it just depends on the shop. Some will overcharge if they dont know what they are getting into. Some if they know exactly what they are doing will give you an estimate right then and there.

My dad spent over 3000 for a new GA16DE in his Sentra. . he got really f*ucked, tho.
Yeah, 1900 would be pretty good, IMO.
edit: actually, not a new engine. . a fawking rebuild!
well the shop is like an all around shop and i think they are more into domestics, but they were closest and they didnt charge me a towing bill for having it towed to their shop after i was knocking a rod.... so hopefully i get my money's worth.
thanks for the offer structure, but by the time i get it to NJ and back, it will cost more than the shop here....
where i live, 240s are really rare to come by. in the auto trader book the most i have seen in it at one time is 2
both were s14.
the s13 is especcially hard to come by and people look at my car and ask wtf is that??
so you can imagine the engines are hard to come by as well, i checked into a few myself and the junkyards were putting them pretty high...
the guy at the e-check dyno put my front wheels on the dyno and gave it gas, almost jumping it off the stops, he just assumed since its a small nissan that its fwd...
YOUR LOOKING AT $60-$80/HR AND BILLING FOR 15-30 HOURS. THATS JUST LABOR NOW ADD PARTS. THIS IS SHOP RATE, SO YOUR LOOKING UPWARDS OF $1000 IN LABOR ALONE.
ok i got the final price, they estimated 1900 before they started, the ending balance is $2106.76, but i think that included a new fuel sending unit o-ring also, im not sure since i was emailed the price and im out of town right now. doesnt that seem a little high?
i believe he said it came out of a '93 240 and it had around 75k miles on it. i havent seen the car yet i have just heard stuff over the phone. i am going to check it out thourougly this weekend when i head home. (im currently dorming at college, not allowed to have a car the first year :angryfire :angry7: :uzi [University of Dayton]
