I noticed a small paint chip on the back bumper where the bumper goes into a tip. It's the area right above the rear tire. It's about 1/4" in diameter and looks like it's just chipped away from the edge. To me, I would think it was a defect that would be covered under the warranty. I didn't get the paint warranty, but the car is less than a year old. I'm going to the dealer for the engine update today and was wondering if I should bring it up as a warranty issue?

I'm pretty sure is not warranty and even if you had the extended warranty.

Honnestly, a chip can append to everyone and everywhere, so it is hard to said if the car was delivered like that or not.

Good luck.

Your Nissan comes with an anti-perforation/corrosion warranty, which gaurantees the sheetmetal and paint finish against defects. The trick is distinguishing between manufacturer defects and perforation caused by wear and tear such as rock chips.

Obviously I don't know what the chip looks like, but I'd say you have a good chance of having it fixed under warranty if it is a factory defect. Give your service manager a call and ask him to repair it under warranty.

I know the paint chips or the paint flecking off near the bottom of the doors is a known issue where somebody here got the dealer to repaint that area for him. Personally i have not done anything even though I have it too. I know it from the tiny dust and dirt that adheres to my rubber seal and eventually wears on the paint. My opinion at least. Not seen when door closed so no biggie. Did place regular scotch tape along that part, Looks stupid but honestly I dont look down to even mind. Didnt think of it until just now.

Thanks for the info. I ended up just asking them what to do about it. They said that it's probably a rock chip and recommended that I use a paint stick. The bumper is plastic so they didn't think that it would chip any more and I don't have to worry about rust. Hopefully the $15 paint stick will get rid of chip.

I'm very pleased with the engine software update though. I didn't think that I would notice a huge difference, but it is very noticeable.

i had a two stone chips on my hood (2009 sl awd) after only 600 miles, the dealer said that stone chips were not covered under any warranties. when you refer to "$15 paint stick" what exactly do you mean. my US dealer only had those paint touch up bottles with the lousy brush inside, they cost about $7...

Here's what they sold me:http://www.courtesyparts.com/t....html

They said to only use it on small touch-ups like rock chips. I haven't used it yet, but it has a paint tip and a clear coat tip.
