I have a 98 sentra 5 speed.

My friend and I were discussing the Oil in the Air Duct Between the Throttle Body and Air Box. I had previously replaced the pcv valve (about a week ago) because it was covered in oil. The car has not been running well at all (no power). He thinks this is in indication of the piston rings dying and that I have blow by.

I think this could possibly be the valve seal. Some educated opinions would be helpful. Thank you!

A small amount of oil is going to exit the crankcase breather and go into the intake, but if it's pooling then yes, there is an issue.

Get it compression tested.

Thanks. I'm working on getting the battery cables replaced, the negative cable has considerable corrosion and breakage. Once I get that done I will definitely check compression.

Someone on a different thread suggested a valve seal issue as well as a damaged MAF sensor as a result of the excess oil going towards the air box. Does anyone think the MAF sensor could be receiving some of this excess oil? Also, the valve seal seems as though it is a likely cause, anyone care to agree/disagree? Once again thanks for the help guys!

Doubtful unless you're generating backpressure in the intake somehow since the line from the crankcase breather comes in after the MAF.

Valve seal is a probable culprit for this.
