small issues with my new (to me) 08

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Loving my new EX. I have had her for a couple weeks now and I am ready to take it to the dealer for a few items. Wondering if any of you have any input or experience with these items also?

Cracked plastic in back hatch (where it meets the aluminum) near the latch area. Cracked in the crease and spreading... Wonder if it could have been caused just from being slammed too hard by owner #1?

Sunroof - lots of wind noise and a small leak when going through the car wash

Auto-down windows. Are they also supposed have an auto-up function???

DS mode... sometimes it shifts nice and smoothly. Other times it just refuses to shift itself and will hold 2nd or 3rd gear until I shift manually.... Not sure if I just need to get used to its personality or if there is an issue?

Side view passenger mirror - it can't go up or down without rubbing the housing and making a loud creaking noise.

My E emblem fell off while drying my car!

I want the dealer to set the door unlock feature to unlock when I put it into park.

I can't tell if the fuel pump or steering rack TSB's have been accomplished... (If not) should I have those done even if I am not experiencing any problems...yet.?

Sounds like a lot of stuff - but really - it isn't. All minor little things that if corrected, will just increase my joy even more.
:gapteeth:

What do you think?

Congrats. I just got an 08 myself. My sunroof does not leak or make noise. They should replace the weather sealing under warranty.

Yes, the windows do auto up. Even when you tun the car off. Just pull up hard. It annoys the hell out of me that the back windows aren't auto too. Any Lexus would have that.

DS - It is meant to stay in a low gear for engine breaking on hills or so you are ready to accelerate. When you are ready to upshift and just drive relaxed, push it back into D mode and the engine will quiet down.

Side mirror - That must be annoying when you put the car into reverse.

I think it unlocks when you push the engine off button not park. Makes sense to me, you don't want to get out with the engine on.

They should be able to check via your VIN. I don't know for sure on mine either.

Well I took her to the dealer yesterday and it was a HORRIBLE experience...
Hatch interior plastic - They denied the crack in the hatch plastic saying they thought it had been 'repaired' previously... they didn't/couldn't elaborate... really?
Sunroof - they ordered a new seal
Windows - although the service advisor stated they could not figure that out (auto-up) and were unable to fix it, the windows suddenly work...
DS mode - I skipped that this time while I figure it out a little more.
Side passenger mirror - they ordered another motor
E emblem - ordered another for me...
Auto-unlock when car in Park - another one they were unable to figure out how to change the setting... Ugh
Steering - they 'greased' something and it sounds better now when I make a slow and sharp right turn

Here is the kicker... They had my (VERY CLEAN) car for 4 hours and when it came back from a very un-needed car wash (with water spots every-frickin-place) they also gave me a door ding!... then had the nerve to say 'that couldn't have happened here'.... BULL s*** ! I just stood there with a stink-eye till the advisor offered to fix it and appologized. Amazing. That will get fixed today... Not sure if they won or lost a customer with that experience. (they surely didn't win me over)... I will probably drive 30 minutes to the next closest Infiniti dealer next time. Hope I can find one that comes close to the service I used to get at the Lexus dealer. Night and Day difference. That's too bad too.

I have the same noise issue with my driver's side mirror and a new one is on order. As far as the Auto-unlock in PARK goes.. that is a simple dealer programmed feature that I have done on my car. For them to say that they don't know how to do that makes me really wonder.
As far as the auto-up feature for the windows, refer to page 2-50 of the owner's manual to reset this feature if it ever happens again!

The owners manual clearly states to bring the car to the dealer to have the auto door lock program changed. I had my setting changed no problem, they just have to find the code to do it.

As far as your DS or driver sport mode goes. I would watch next time it happens, and make sure you didn't bump the shifter with your hand like I did by accident, it goes from automatic to manual with just a bump. I was up to 60 in 1st before I noticed..lol..nice smooth engine anyway.

Good luck!

Yes - I have the manual and I told the "dealer" the same, but was not in the mood to try and talk sense to him... I will have it addressed next time and will print that page off and highlight it for them.

Good news is: Windows are now auto-up. Ding was taken care of about 85% and un-noticeable to anyone not looking for it.
I also set the Welcome lighting feature (kinda cool) and at least I was able to set the door locks to again unlock when the car is turned off.

I do think that I need to just get used to the shifting personality of this transmission. I do wish it had paddle shifters or tiptronic like the Porsche...or even the scaled back version of the old IS300's....

The dealer ended up fixing my auto-up windows - but here is what the manual said...

"If the windows do not close
automatically
If the power window automatic function (closing
only) does not operate properly, perform the
following procedure to initialize the power window
system.
1. Push the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. Close the door.
3. Open the window more than halfway by
operating the power window switch.
4. Pull the power window switch and hold it
to close the window, and then hold the
switch more than 3 seconds after the
window is closed completely.
5. Release the power window switch. Operate
the window by the automatic function
to confirm the initialization is complete.
6. Perform steps 2 through 5 above for other
windows.
If the power window automatic function does
not operate properly after performing the procedure
above, have your vehicle checked by an
INFINITI dealer."

XIS,

I've been reading through this forum for a while now and from what I can recall, you are in AZ. I am also in AZ and have now owned my Certified Pre-Owned '08 EX35 for about a month. This post of yours actually caused me to finally register with this site to ask what dealer you are referring to? If you are uncomfortable answering, I completely understand.
A little background. I traded in my '03 Pontiac Vibe GT for my EX35. I literally cried for the three hours it took to make the purchase as I dearly loved that car. I understand it was by no means a luxury car, but there is no comparable car for the fuel economy or cargo space. I felt the EX was the upgraded, luxurious "adult" version. I helped my sister-in-law pick out the exact same car in Indiana earlier this year and she has been thrilled with hers. Her dealership also made me want to write a recommendation when I wasn't even purchasing the car!
The dealership I worked with out here was a different experience. My issues have been "minor", but keep stacking up and am definitely not having the "warm fuzzies" for Infiniti or their word. In the first two weeks I owned the car, I drove it only seven of those days and the rest had a loaner while they were trying to figure out the problems. After that, I got the car back (still awaiting backordered part) and the next day the battery died. It was sold with the original battery which I questioned them about as anyone in AZ knows batteries last two, maybe three years tops out here, and they said they only replace it if it fails....Well, they replaced it alright. I was not having anything else with them. I have now had the car for two weeks since the last time it was at the dealer to get the battery replaced and "re-certify" it. No major mishaps but still awaiting the "sunglass/maplight console" part that has been backordered from Japan.
I really really really want to love this car but am having such a hard time bonding with it. The Infiniti dealership I purchased it from is 40 miles from my house but they had the Certified Pre-Owned program and I wanted that warranty so I made the drive. There is another dealership four minutes from my house that I am going to switch to but don't want to have the same ordeal all over again. From the sounds of your dealership experience, I am wondering if we've had the joys of the same dealership. I am planning on writing to Infiniti but want to get my backordered part installed before I throw out any bad words about them.
I just don't know if these are exclusive to my EX or if the service is just this bad. From the sounds of this forum, a lot of people love this car (my sister-in-law included). I would love to eventually be one of those people as well.

I got your PM but I guess because I'm new to the site, I'm not able to respond until I post more. My dealership is in the East Valley. I am planning on going to the one you mentioned you are going to try in the future as well after this. We'll see how it goes.
