I was taking an exit ramp about 25 mph in my 89 240 with slick roads when I felt like I was losing it. I stayed on the gas so my rear wouldn't kick out, trying to avoid doing some 360's and having someone hit me, but she started to plow. I plowed my driver side front wheel into a curve at about 20 mph. The wheel was puched back into the wheel-well causing it to scrape the back of the fender, so I couldn't drive it. I thought about it and put my spare tire on, so I would have more room and hopefully be able to drive it to my mechanics place, 20 min away, a trip that took about an hour going 20 mph. It worked, so I didn't need to call a tow truck. I beleive the sway bar is broken and maybe the control arm, but I'm not sure. The thin bar that connects to the front bumper is twisted up and the metal bar that connects to the braking system is snapped off (I think the sway). Anyone have any idea what parts I'm talking about? Any idea how much the damage will be? If its over 500 I'll probably have to junk it :( I've had her for 5 years and she just turned 200k........I hope it won't be much :(:(:(:(

sorry for the pics they are from my camera phone

This is the bar that broke off-I think the sway

I doubt it will be 500, as long as you are willing to get some junked parts. http://www.car-part.com will be your friend for that one. :)

And damn that sucks to hear. Rain = bad for 240s.

about $450.....new lower control arm, radius arm (I think that what its called), rim, alignment, labor. These are for new parts (except the rim). I'm going to check out how much the parts are at the junk yard......I think i'll fix it but I'm close to junking it, the transmission may be going soon :(

if the frame is hurt then junking it wont be such a bad idea, or maybe donating for a tax deduction.

The frame is a little bit messed up, but after thinking about it today I can't bring myself to junk it..........I practically grew up with that car. I remember waxing it like every week when I was 16 and first got i. Time to look for 7-spoke alloys, I've always wanted them :)

Once the frame is torqued, your car will never be the same again.

I had a little wreck like that too once...

but both wheels on the left side slammed into the curb...

it ended up being ~3000 dollars... it messed up the power steering and the rack and pinion(I think thats what its called)

I know its worth it but I think my transmission is going.....it grinds in 2nd geat when pushed a little. It also has rust on it, and that worries me.

Alot of 240s grind 2nd or 3rd. Thats not a huge deal. Mine does, so I changed the trans fluid w/ some of the Redline stuff that everyone raves about, and it really did help alot. Now I only grind third if I'm racing or shift too fast

I agree with blackstar, ive read and heard that 240's are kind of notorious for grinding the mid gears somewhat

If you can take some clearer (daytime) pictures of what all is messed up I may have most/some of it of my clip for little or no cost.
