2003 G35 with 45,000 miles. when I try to start it drags a little like a weak battery (battery is not weak) and then starts. After starting, the dash reads SLIP, service engine soon, and VDC off. Can anyone help me with what might be the problem. And also, is it ok to drive with these messages on the dash?

I usually read of those messages being present when a battery is weak. Are you absolutely sure your battery is holding correct voltage AND able to provide the necessary cranking amps?

yes. I'm pretty sure battery is ok. Only about a year old and checked and even charged for an hour and tried again. The voltage is reading good. What the heck is SLIP AND VDC OFF anyway?

Check your brake fluid.
As the pads wear, the fluid level goes down just a little.
It can go down just enough to trip the Slip, VDC Off and Engine lights.
Add a biot of fluid, and it may go away.

Take it to an auto parts store and have them check the battery. Voltage means nothing, you need amperage and this can't be tested using a multi-meter(practically). I had a battery die within a year. Fortunately it was under warranty and I got replacement.
What really impresses me is you have a 2003 with 45k on it.

A ten dollar battery hydrometer can confirm a dead or defective battery cell
