Hey all- I'm looking to do some performance mods this summer and have several questions... First off, I have an 01 xterra 4x4 se with about 80,000 miles and am wanting to get the most performance out of it that I can- short of adding a s/c. So here's what I am looking to add... Headers, catback, plugs and wires, cams, lifters, large bore throttle plate, ecm recal. by jetchips, and possibly a scoop in the hood to pipe some cold air over to my k&n (the snorkle is just a bit much appearance wise.) I came accross these Spencer Low headers, but they are listed for off road use only- does this mean that I would have trouble passing inspections? As far as the rest goes, a thumbs up or down or even a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

inspections vary state to state, it probably more means you'd have trouble with emissions (which also vary state to state).

just a thought -- i'm not terribly familiar with xterra exhaust, but if you are doing headers and catback -- you may want to spring the extra $ for a ypipe and high flow cat.

Yes. use of the SLR headers requires removal of the two precats, which will cause the vehicle to fail visual smog inspections if your state has them.

AC continues to promise the launch of a set of 3.3 headers...not sure if they'll be the same way or not.

I've also heard of dismal quality issues with the SLR headers, and their customer service has continued being questionable. Case in point - a freind of mine bought a set and had to send them back twice due to bad welds and obvious leaks. To SLR's credit, they did make it right, but bolting on and unbolting headers off one of these engines a couple times is no fun job.

I've had other parts from them myself that have been of good quality, so I guess it's a crap shoot.
