Ive been lurking these forums for a while now, and finally decided to take some pictures of my 240 and post start my ''build thread''. At first I planned on doing a ka24de swap then building it for turbo. Then i came across the vh45 and was set on that for a long time, but i couldnt find the q45 donor car i was looking for. I then found this:

Sr20det redtop. Bought it off a kid who was in need of cash. He claimed that it was freshly rebuild and has only been started a couple times after the build. Yesterday i got it on the engine stand and drained the oil and took off the oil pan.
The oil was a grayish metallic color with small amounts of metal shavings, but i read that this could be caused by a freshly build motor that is being broken in. I also found a chunk of cast aluminum in the oil pan, which i could not find where it came from. I was glad to see that the pistons and rods looked new like the kid said, but wasnt happy about the chunk of aluminum.

It has threads on it with rtv on it, the person i bought it off wast a little rtv happy so my guess there was too much on the bolt, and since it was in the threads it caused it to crack and break off.

More pictures of the engine (idk how i feel bout the valve cover):

I went to a junk yard yesterday and there was a 93 240sx that i stripped out. Took the dash, door and fender and a bunch of other interior pieces. Ended up costing me 180 for everything. Not bad considering a good black uncracked dash can go for 90-120 bucks.
(sorry for the s*** pictures)

Harness that is hacked. From the looks of it, it seems to be the harness that goes to the injectors, but im not sure.

My interior, s14 seats = :chuckle: awesome... blue interior =

Thats it for now, im not sure when the next update will be, the car sits at my parents about 5 hrs away from where i go to school, so i cant work on it that often. Next time ill be able to see it will be in about 3 weeks. Let me know what you guys think!

Think of the valve cover as artistic.................or repaint it. No 240sx's in any junkyards within 100 miles of me, must be nice.

Yea the valve cover is quite "artistic" in the end it will probably get powder coated to match the car or back to the original red. Yea it was pure luck, i came home and there was a 240 there and i was one of the first there to get at it. while i was there some kid came and took the hatch off it, i was prepared to stab anyone who touched the dash while i was messing with the door and fender lol

Any input about the oil color or the chunk of aluminum in my oil pan, thats my biggest worry, dont wanna have to get a short block already lol. I guess i really wont know until I pull it all apart.

So i started to get a parts list around, and im getting anxious and may start ordering...

One question before the list... Coilovers... i was looking at stance GR+, but a friend of mine said he could get me a deal on a set of XYZ coilovers for $950 bran new. I was wondering if the XYZs are a good coilover.

List as of right now:
-Stance pretty much every type of suspension link there is
-Stance gr+ coils or xyz coilvers.
-Either GT2871R, GT2876R, or GT3071R turbo (looking for 325-375 hp with a fast spool)
-Tennesse Clutch Supply Maxima Clutch with a Spec flywheel
-JWT s3 cams
-JWT ECU
-OEM Wiring harness
-Cometic Head Gasket
-Still looking for a valvetrain set (springs, retainers, valves) for a good price

As of right now i want to wait a little more on the engine stuff and focus on the suspension. Hit me up with some feedback about the suspension stuff so i can get rolling on this. Thanks

i just swapped to a gt2871 .64

still responsive and could easily meet your hp goals with supporting mods and the jwt cams and proper tune

Good to know, I think that's what i may go with, I've heard it has almost an instant spool. I also found out that there is an instructor here at school who know a lot about JWT ECUs and can tune them pretty well, so I think that is going to be a must have for my project.

Alright i guess its time for another update, nothing big but its getting there. I started stripping my 240 down and got my sr partly torn down. Still no idea where the chunk of aluminum is from but i found out that this engine wasn't ran long on the fresh build. Exhaust ports had no carbon build up, which means im happy. But im having the engine looked over by a machinist. The only issue ive seen so far is that there is some axial piston slop, hard to explain but i can push piston side to side, idk if this is because the are free floating pistons or not but im sure the machinist will tell me whats up. Going to replace the head gasket, head studs, chain guides ect. Where is the best place for s13 sr20det chain guides?

Now for pics....

Looks like a clean engine which is nice. Remindes me of my 4g63 build cant wait to get my SR torn down and cleaned. But while you have the engine torn down and in the shop you should have them balance your rotating assemply with clutch and flywheel. It's cheap to have done i think it cost me 125$ well worth it. But hey just a sugestion there is a lot you can do while you have the engine out and apart. anyway clean build. :)

Just one picture for right now, i may be making a part review thread later today, or maybe tomorrow.

Image

ISIS turbo lines
ISIS Radiator kit
ISIS Oil Cooler
ISIS FMIC Piping kit and HKS style flange
ISIS Oil Pan

Think thats it. Review will be on the first 3 parts, just cause the other 2 are still down at school. FMIC piping and Oil Pan are getting powder coated black.

Parts i still need:
-BOV
-Intercooler (Black Mishimoto)
-Starter
-ECU
-z32 MaF
-550cc Injectors
hmmm theres a couple other things but thats pretty much all I need to get my project running as of right now....
