My Versa is very slow to defog, 40 minutes, and no air comes out of the vent at the base of the windshield. Has anyone else had this problem.I do have the heater adjusted poroperly, in fact I have tried every possible combination and still no air comes out of or goes into that vent. I have to run the airconditioner almost all the time just to keep the windshield clear and of course this does not help the mileage which is also bad.

Take it to the dealer man. Something like a defroster shouldnt brake unless it has been tampered with.

Do you turn it to heat and to the defrost setting? Mine only takes about 4 min to defrost.

What I do is I turn that one thingy all the way to the right so it goes to the defroster. Then make it so its outside air coming in. Turn the AC on. And put the temp thingy in the middle where the color is a gray. At least thats what I was taught and it works within a couple of minutes.

Yes, I have tried every possible setting. I worked out a table in Excel and my girlfriend and I went through the intire list, 48 different possibilities.

I have an appointment for Wed morning but the reason I was asking is I have heard that some cars draw air into the defog/defrost vent rath than push it out. Apparently all the air is handled by the airconditioner. Obviousely this is not the case with the Versa but I thought I would check before taking it in for service. Thank you for your prompt repy though.

Yes that is what I do as well and it is aslo the logical thing to do and it is how most cars work but I was hoping that I may have overlooked something and that the on line community may be of some assistance. Thanks for your relpy though.

You most likely have a stuck air control vane, or damaged/missing linkage. Air should come out of the defroster vents when in defrost mode.

One kind of important step was left out. Turn the fan on.

Also, I thought the A/C automatically turned on when the vent selector (thingy) was turned to the defroster setting. Or am I just imagining things? I haven't had to use that function yet, but I thought that's how it worked.

When I turn the dial to defrost the a/c automatically comes on.

I leave the slider at the "recirculate" setting on the right.

Temperature setting doesn't seem to matter but I usually put it all the way up (hottest setting).

I put the fan on the highest setting to help clear any moisture out of the system and clear the window before turning the temperature and the fan down.

A fair amount of air comes out of those vents.

There must be something wrong with your system and it should be checked out.

I have to turn on my AC manually even when I'm defrosting. I read it on another thread and tested it out...doesn't turn on on its own.

Well I figure everyone here wasn't stupid so didn't think it was necessary.

Lain, it's supposed to turn on automatically when the defroster is selected (vent control knob, not the rear window defroster button). If it doesn't, you should probably have it looked at.

Well the result is in, the "mode door" has to be replaced and it is fully coverd by the warranty, parts and labour. It is just costing a lot in gas as I am about 100 miles away from the dealer but that's another issue. On another subject, is that an '07 Versa manual that you use for your avatar. If so do you know where I can get one.
