my sr20 has gtir pistons and a thicker than stock head gasket which i know lowers the compression a bit but im having problems wit my engine. it runs fine but it's slow as hell. i took my car to a dyno to get it tuned and get the boost turned up but all we could get it up it was 170hp 180tq...and that's runnin at 15psi...anyone have any ideas on whats up wit my engine?

First of all its a SR. lol

I personally like motors ending in an A or B

But maybe you could be running lean, running rich, turbo shot, could be alot of things. Just got to hunt that ***** down.

Lowered compression + stock t25 = slower. Teh t25 runs out of juice pretty quickly. I suggest getting an s15 spec r or gt2871r

Keep this away from a motor bash thread. This kid has an actual problem, and I don't want to lock a thread down because some people have to start the old my motor is better than your motor bullsh1t.

OP, run a compression test to see what your motor is running at. How long ago did you rebuild the motor (in miles). Rings can take upwards of 500 or so miles to seat in. Until they seat in, the motor will feel sluggish.

Are you still running the stock T25? If so, don't do 15 psi for the love of all that is holy. The turbo craps out at 14, and 15 is just asking for it to fly apart. Plus the turbo's effeciency peak seems to be at 13-ish psi. I rarely see gains on a T25 past 13.

When they did the dyno runs did they show you what your a/f ratio was? that may be a hint right there. But remember always check the simple things first. Fuel, spark, compression.

it was rebuilt about 18000 miles back i think, not quite sure since i bought the car wit the engine in it. i have an s15 turbo and when they dynoed it they adjusted the air/fuel ratio so i dont think thats the problem

My bone stock SR is putting down 190whp...you should be putting down more. Look for boost/vacuum leaks

i dont have any boost/vacuum leaks. fuel's good, spark's good, compression in low...the shop i take my car to said the compression ratio is about a point lower than what it should be...

WTF are points? Get a compression checking tool and give us some numbers. Low power, if you've checked what you said you have, can be timing. If you don't want to set timing with the motor in for no reason I'd go back and double check spark, fuel, and boost.

Drop your oil pan, pull off the valve cover and line up the timing marks on the cam gears and the crank gear at TDC of the compression stroke in accordance with the FSM. It sounds like your timing gear on your crank is off a tooth or two. The easiest way to check it without pulling the whole engine or the timing cover is to pull off the oil pan, baffle plate, and oil pickup. Look for the gold link on the timing chain...with the two silver links lined up with the dots on the cam gears, the crankshaft key should be pointing straight up at 12 o'clock and the gold link should be on the sprocket on the crankshaft at about the 4 or 5 o clock position. I'd say either your timing is way jacked up or compression...so check that too. Other than that if it sounds like it's running on all cylinders and idles okay and has good compression, either your fuel or your timing is way off. Good luck.
