Slow pick up speed

I've been driving my V (S) for 3 months now and I love my car.

I'm not sure if it's normal but whenever I'm at the lights/stop sign, it's slow to pick up speed. I almost have to push the gas pedal all the way to the floor before it moves. It feels like I'm dragging something heavy in the back. Sometimes, cars are passing me because i'm slow. Is it the cold weather here in Ottawa?

Are you exaggerating? My V doesn't have great pick up... but exactly what I expected for the size. But I definitely don't have to almost floor it to get it to move....

Any chance you've pushed the "Overdrive Off" button on the shifter and the "OD OFF" dash light is on? (Manual page 5-14 and 2-6) That's the only way mine ever feels at all sluggish.

Did you forget the car only has 122HP?

If the OD is off, that would increase your acceleration.

I assume you're talking about an Auto transmission. Bring it into the dealer so that they could investigate. By driving it around, you may be doing more damage than good.

I'd have to say that having the O/D off increasing your pick-up is a fallacy. It seems to work from a roll, but the increase in pick-up from a standstill does not seem to be significant or existent at all. You should be driving with O/D on at all times unless you are in a situation where there are many steep hills. If you note how the revs stay at about 3800 at 20 mph rather than about 1800, you will know that the difference between the revs and redline is much less with the O/D off, so you are offered more torque sooner than with the O/D off. If you are at a standstill, the idle stays the same as it would with O/D on or off, therefore there could be no more torque or hp than the maximum 122hp and 127lb/ft of torque at the crank. I hope this is understandable and somewhat clears this up. Maybe one day I'll bring my V to the track to run a quick test on this, the results should be insignificantly variable.

I live in warmer weather, but my husband loves beating people "off the line" at traffic lights.

He always wins.

A few weeks ago, he left a Grand Prix behind.

I thank God our necks bend and there is a head rest.

If your driving a 6 MT I hope its not a burnt clutch. They don't put as much asbestos in them as they used to.

If it was a 6MT the ASCD switch would be the likely culprit, but as it's an S, it doesn't have one.

If it's an AT, I have to agree on the point of taking it in to the dealership. Granted, a traditional AT will ALWAYS be slower than a counterpart CVT or 6MT (it's just the nature of the beast), but it shouldn't feel like you're dragging an anchor either.
