Ok one day at work I noticed a puddle underneath my car. After I figured out what it was(coolant) I started looking for a leak. All hoses were good and dry. When I could get underneath the car it was dripping pretty fast from off the oil pan. From my best guess its coming off the water pump. There is a small hole on the bottom of the pump that looks to be leaking. I will wipe it clean then start the car wait a few minutes and its wet again. What is this hole on the bottom side of the water pump??????? And why is it leaking????

I'm not specifically sure on 240's but I know on some cars there is a weep hole in the water pump housing that leaks on purpose to let you know the water pump is failing. I would do some research in that direction...

you are right, the bottom hole on the water pump is a sign that the seal is gone and the water pump needs replacement.

if you are sure that is, you will most likely have to replace the pump, replacing it is not hard though.

I just replaced mine and it was leaking just like yours, now no more worrying about those leaks. Find them ones with the lifetime warranty. One question though... My temperature thing in the gauge shows that the temp is a lil bit higher than half way everytime when I drive, is that ok? What does yours show?

My temp never got above normal, I even got my electric fans off(on a switch) most of the time. Of course most of the time when I have been driving its been a little cold outside. Thanks for the info, I was afraid the water pump was going out but atleast its not something major... How much would a good pump cost and where would I get a good one? I dont want some cheap POS, but I dont wannna pay Nissan's high prices either.....

To answer the previous questions, yes your waterpump needs replacing but the good news is they are about $20-$30 at autozone etc. Also if your temp gauge reads a little high you might want to change the thermostat along with making sure you have bled all the air out of the coolant system.

I got mine for $29.99 w/ a lifetime warranty at Advance Auto Parts. I got a new radiator and waterpump thats all. Maybe I should buy the thermostat. Dont want to worry about the engine overheating. It keeps me up at night.

you're gonna need some permatex ultra gray, to lay down a new gasket around the water pump. its probably advisable to drain some fluid too, but you dont necessarily have to if you like it sloppy like that

i have one KA water pump that doesnt have slots cut into it for the liquid gasket, if you know what im saying. there was a paper gasket that went with it, but i layed a liquid gasket on that and it was all good. however i'm not sure if this is a werido aftermarket water pump or if its an S14 thing or something, but you definately are gonna need to lay down a new gasket

the slot cut around the places where the gasket goes started on S14 engine's, the S13's don't have it, the S14's have it @ the waterpump & the front covers.

i just used the liquid gasket on my S13 as the paper gasket sux:).

weird. my s13 had a waterpump with the slots, adn my s14 had the one with the paper gaskets. but in the land of 240s, it impossible to ell what crazy **** people have done to the parts you intend on using
