When cold (first 2 or so shifts) the shift from 2-3 is really slow. its gotten worse over the past year ive had it, and 9000 miles...

Its just not as crisp as the other ones, if 1-2 looks like "---_---" , with the low point being the shift, 2-3 looks like "---____---".

Ive had this for a while, but its not always bad.. Sometimes it doesnt do it as bad... I hear its not nearly as bad as slipping...

I figured I wouldnt post just in case the transmission cooler, pan drop, and filter change helped, and I think it helped a little.....

Would a flush help???

Wes....I forgot to get the receipt for my transmission being rebuilt before I took it to the scum bag dealer so that you could see all the parts that were replaced. If you are interested in my transmission let me know and I can work out something for you cheap. I think the one with 110K on it went for around $125. I would like a little more than than this as it was just rebuilt and runs fine. I just really hope that sticking a 92 transmission into my 95 car will work. I had got a bunch of crap from the dealer on Friday about doing the swap and basically told them where they could stick it and to get there heads out of the text books and that they can deviate from the text books....with the text books not having the finally say in everything. Still did not get far with the dealer so I found another shop on Saturday to do the swap.

Here is there number....I had it still in my cell. 954-961-1147 and ask for Dan @ AAction transmissions. I visited him on Saturday to see if they would do the swap and cut me a deal since they overcharged the warranty company anyway...he said nope...no deal here, swap will cost $489 excluding materials. Forget that...I'll rent myself a dang lift and do it myself just like you have been doing . How hard can it be to do a swap and it surely will not take 8.2 hours as per their stupid little book. Then again..I have been running into a lot of incompentent mechanics lately so that book might be right.

After you do it [DIY] correctly $500 will seem cheap.......takes 2 people for part of the job.......fighting exhaust and driveshaft off.Takes two to pull transmission off of transmission jack and place newer one on jack.

Be sure to replace rear main seal on engine while exposed.

Hope you have 4 foot extensions and appropriate air tools.

Ahhh come on now...it can't be that bad can it??? Just joking with ya Q45tech. I know that it is not an easy job, but when you are a repeat customer and they rapped the warranty company for everything that they could, I would expect a little bit of a discount. Ugghhh...it worked out better that they did not give me a discount becuase I found a speciality driveline shop that builds drag cars and street rods with people there that a looking forward to seeing what my car can do after I get the new rearend and transmission.

The problem with the 4.083 vs 3.538 in a 90-93 transmission is you run out of rpms by [1.544 x 4.083=6.304 2nd gear total multiplication] ..........855 rpms per 10 mph 6900/855=80-81 mph at 6900 and normal WOT shift at 72-75 mph.

Getting an effective 22% torque multiplication by both should be noticeable in 0-72/75mph and in between and that should decrease by at least 0.5 seconds [maybe 0.7 secs] but the quarter mile time probably won't get any better since the GAIN will be lost in the 2nd to 3rd shift and lower 4.083/5.4626=0.747 or 25% less torque from 75-90 *or 95 mph..........things will be [get] better in the 100-118 mph range again.

*Quarter mile might actually get worse as the 75-90 or 93 mph might take 0.1-0.2 seconds longer. Gain 0.5 lose 0.8 in shift and lose 0.2 in 75>95 acceleration might lose 0.5-0.3 secs in total, not sure of my math .

Not sure that the 15% poorer highway mileage is a good trade off in the current situation.

Still believe that the ideal quarter mile vehicle is the 90-93 transmission with stock 3.538 rear diff ratio and the JWT ecu allowing 7300 rpm in each gear [allowing 98 mph in 2 gear and only 1 shift].

I'm sure you'l lets us known how it performs.

Infiniti has tried 4 speed and 5 speed and diff tweeks and engine tweeks and in the end all they have accomplished is better 0>60 and a tiny decrease in quarter mile time with lighter vehicles.

4.5 liters and 4,000 pounds is a wall you hit. Physics.

Ahhh Q45tech...you are always good for busting my balls. :D

We shall see how it goes. I am not really interested in 1/4 mile times as I am more interested in the street races which never last as long as the 1/4. Actually the shifting a 70mph would benefit me on a freeway race (I think) as I would not be shifting at the 90mph mark as I do now which would be in the middle of my race if I was racing. Often I start racing around 75 and we run up to about 110 or so and maybe with this new setup I would eliminate a shift point. Who knows...only time will tell. Since UPS lost my rearend...I am probably going to Moroso this weekend to see what my stock Q can do in the 1/4 and then I will do it again after all my mods.

15% poorer highway mileage....ahh come on now, you must have me mistaken for some "tree hugger" type of guy. If that was the case, I would be farting around in one of those Toyota Echo things and not dropping over $10,000 into my car. I still sometime wonder about my logic on this one, but I am having fun at doing this so what the hell.

You are probably correct about the original 90-93 Q with JWT ECU/TCU being the best overall setup for the 1/4, but my main purpose will be a street racer. I don't want to build a beast to beat everyone out there...I just want to be able to run with the new cars and not get left behind anymore.

Q45tech....I mean that all in good taste as for what I have stated above and I love your number calcuations. You see I am an "actuary" which is somebody who forecasts losses for insurance companies. I figure out all the boring stuff like probability of death based on certain age, probability of an auto accident and all the costs associated with the accident, etc. I have a degree in Statistics and another in Actuarial Science so I have much appreciation for all your calculations and welcome them very much as I am learing a lot from what you have to say.

Thanks RSI for hijacking my thread!! :D :D Just kidding, this is great information... email me about your transmission and we can work something out, i sorta forgot about some of the details.....

So Dennis what do you think about the slow shift.. Would a flush help make it slower, or am i basically on a time bomb situation.....??? once the car is driven for a while (5mins) it feels pretty good..... It almost feels if something is sticking, and it needs a little carb cleaner to loosen it up! :D

sorry for the highjack.....I like a little friendly competition and a challenge. I got the day off Friday for the dyno run and then off to the drag strip which is an hour North in WestPalm to see what my baby can do.

I will email you tonight about the transmission stuff....you can have it for probably less than what I bought my 1992 core for as I have no use for it and I can't store it anywhere either. I will need to wait a couple of days to before sending it to you to make sure all is good with the new transmission.

I should get my car back tomorrow from the dealer.

Elwesso, I have a had that problem for some time too. I was thinking like you were that I could clean it out but hasn't seemed to work.

I am having it checked out this week and I'll let you know what my transmission shop has to say. One man's opinion anyway...
