My shifter (5 speed) is really sloppy. There is no springiness to it so it is tough to find gears. I have been told that I need shifter bushings. I am wondering if I get a short throw kit like I want to if this will also take care of the problem

should do it. google 240sx b&m short shifter, you'll see lots of pictures and get the driving impressions. I haven't done this myself, but by the look of it, it seems that that all the spring action is in the gear selector assembly. good luck. let us know how it turns out.

Getting a short shifter will prob help you out, can't say for sure though and yeah it's prob a small rubber bushing worn out in your trans, not hard to get to just under the top cover
