Ok, before i ramble, I'm going to list the parts I used, all NEW

Heavy Throttle SS clutch line, from Master cylinder to Slave lineSPL Parts SS Slave lineAdvance Autoparts Clutch master cylinderAdvance Autoparts slave cylinderExedy OEM replacement clutchnew tobnew pilot bearing97 5 spd ecu97 5 spd tranny97 5 spd driveshaftand other misc things you dont need to know

First off, the car starts up and runs fine, thats not the problem

We have bled the clutch, without any signs of air bubbles, as far as i can see anyway. The clutch pedal fails to become firm like it should be. Its really squishy and comes up really slow.

-The slave cylinder has good movement, and the fork moves fine. -The tob assembly was installed correctly with retaining clip.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the clutch pedal adjustment- there is quite a bit of free play, but i have the fork on the master cylinder all the way out just about. Even then theres a bit of free play. I didn't think backing it towards the firewall would do any good since it would pull the pedal closer to the floow.

OR maybe I just got some **** parts from Advance Autoparts...???

OR is bleeding stainless steel lines just hard?

Anyone have any tips or ideas?

thanks guys

That's a tough one. I had a similar problem awhile back with a 100% stock clutch system. Fluid came out fine but I couldn't get feel. Then after bleeding it (with the system resealed of course!) I just started stomping up and down on the clutch (like a few dozen times) and it firmed up. It has stayed firm since too, for the last few months.

this is kinda a far cry just for thought, but is one of the other things we dont need to know about that black damper box? Because alot of people miss bleeding the lines to this and ask this same question, it might bepossible to find by searching, but then again it might be a *****

i bypassed the damper system, so it goes in this order

clutch master cylinderss liness lineslave cylinder

i've done a 5 spd conversion before, on an s13 though, but same concept.

bleeding is usually a breeze, but for some reason i'm having problems with getting a good pedal. this one has me stumped, i guess some more bleeding won't hurt

u should be able to bleed it in 2-3 minutes if you have the dampner system bypassed

That might be right, Isn't the 96 OBDI and the 98 OBDII? I know for sure without question that the 98 is OBDII, I just don't know if 96 had switched over.

96 is OBDII so it is the same as 98, but i read someolace that 95 and 96 cars had a different speed sensors compared to S13s and 97,98. like they had the design in S13s and went back to it in 97 and 98. i have a spare transmission off a 95 so i will take out the speed sensor and give that a try.
