Does anyone have experience of knowing what is slipping, the trans itself or the converter? This is an 88 4x4 automatic and so I believe it's the trans-did overheat bad once(20,000 miles ago)but now o/drive won't even work.

i have had experience with a clutch slipping before just recently did a clutch swap in my friends srt4 if its slipping then you can tell almost right away that its sleeping if it wont go into o/d i would think it would most likely be the shift selector but then again i dont know for sure

slippage is usually transmission not TC, especially if OD has gone must have popped a band or fried one in the transmission. Hate to say it but it is probably on its way OUT
