So, I drove my car the 3 hours to the beach, and about 2 hours into the drive, i realized my clutch wasn't working quite right. I shifted from 1st to 2nd, but my revs stayed at 4k even though i let the clutch out, then dropped down, and the same thing happened 2nd to 3rd. And now, if im sitting at a light, and just slowly let to clutch out to inch up, it feels as if the car is going to stall, but I used to be able to start moving, let the clutch out completely, without any gas, smoothly. It just seems weak.

I learned to drive a stick on my car, and was a bit wreckless at first. (17 year old, just got his license, maybe led to a bit of abuse =\ ) so there was definately a lot more clutch burnt than normal, but I have just over 26000 miles.

My questions are:a.) Do you think it just needs some adjustment or i burned it out?b.) if i burned it out, should i just have it replaced with an OEM clutch, or would it be cheaper/better to go aftermarket, if there is one?

Thanks for your time;I'll be able to get it to a shop next week, just want some preliminary advice.

Clutch pedal is supposed to be self adjusting, so would guess the clutch may be toast.

I don't know of an aftermarket replacement. Would just check around for the cheapest place for the OEM one.

ughhh, well i have a friend that works at a car dealer, more like a car dealer complex; he works in the toyota division, but knows everyone at nissan, so hopefully it wont be TOO bad of a fix, but there goes my savings account. lol

which part of the clutch is the part that would actually be burned though? im looking at parts online, and there are 3 things under "clutch and flywheel"... "Clutch and Flywheel, disc"; "Clutch and Flywheel, Pressure Plate"; and "Clutch and Flywheel, Flywheel". and these range from 170 dollars to 715 dollars!

The part that is bad is typically the clutch disk.

That said, it's best practice to re-surface or replace the flywheel. Also you must replace the Disk, pressure plate and I always do the slave cylinder

So here would be the list.

[30620X] CYLINDER ASSY-CLUTCH OPERATING...21.00[30100] DISC ASSY-CLUTCH.......177.42[30210] COVER ASSY-CLUTCH....230.76

[12310] FLYWHEEL ASSY... This one hurts... hopefully you can resurface it...769.72. It must be a dual-mass flywheel for that price. if you do need a new one, you may want to look for an aftermarket lightweight one, usually 1/3 the price of new. The only downfall is you typically will get a little noise in the trans.

you said the flywheel was more than $700... thats what i saw on one site, but i just looked through TheNismoShop's online catalog and they have the flywheel listed at $327... is this not the right thing? im not car illiterate but i have never dealt with any clutches.

Yepper that IS listed as a flywheel, if that is an OEM part, that is a DEAL!!!!

However, you will not know the true condition of the flywheel until you pull it. So a resurface may only be 100 bucks or less.

So, I had the tech test drive my car, and this man knows cars. His final diagnosis: I still have about 30,000 miles left on my clutch; but what was happening could have easily been mistaken for it being burnt out. What was wrong was a combination of 2 things. There was most likely some moisture in the hydraulic line, which gave me a softer pedal, and the catch point was different because according to him, that the clutch was still "settling in" so all is fine, just the car adjusting itself.

Thanks to everyone for all the info and help!

There was a problem with some Versa's where the cruise control safety switch on the clutch pedal was mis-adjusted and prevented the clutch pedal from returning 100%.

Frank2009 Versa sedan MT-6 (avg MPG over 5300 miles is 34.6)

I would take it in to Nissan, the clutch is covered under your powertrain for 12000 miles. I just found that out yesterday while having a conversation with a service manager. I would suggest you take it up there and have it looked at.

go to your dealer and tell them your clutch feels as if its slipping, they should test drive it. If you have cruise control, i believe there was a TSB because there was a problem with the cruise control causing the clutch to slip. I dont know the specifics. But your clutch is covered for 12,000 miles under your powertrain warranty; as per the service manager.
