Just curious as to what the light "Slip" refers to when it lights up - right by the rev meter. It seems to light up when I am driving over a bumpy road, especially if I am turning and the road is not paved. Is this the slip differential?

When it comes on, is this a bad thing and what is supposed to be done when it does?

Thanks.

Basically it's just an indicator light that lets you know the VDC or traction control is working. Kinda a heads up to let you know that the road you are on is possibly slippery and/or uneven and to be careful. Mine has only come on when I break the rear end loose in a turn or intentionally drift a turn. It can come on with the VDC on or off and it resets and goes away when you shut the car off and turn back on.Hope that helps

If the slip light flashes it means that the VDC system has sensed on of the tires moving faster than the others (losing traction). The slip means that the computer is applying brakes to the slipping wheel and/or cutting engine power...

It's not necessarily a bad thing, it's keeping you safe. However, if your doing spirited driving, it can slow you down...just don't lose it in a corner with the VDC off!

Great, thanks. Could you explain the VDC please?

Thanks

Why Does the SLIP Light Come on?

The SLIP light represents the vehicle's traction control program. When illuminated it takes over control of throttle and braking based on input from a myriad of sensors. The VDC (traction control) is initiated by wheel slip, yaw and any other factors that make the computer think you're on the verge of loosing control of the vehicle. There have been a lot of complaints about the G35's VDC being too interfering and actually causing harder driving conditions. The VDC can be turned off via a switch to the lower left of the steering wheel (useful if trying to pull out of a snowy spot when wheel spin is necessary, or "spirited" accelerating). Even with the VDC turned off, however, it will still kick in if it detects substantial loss of control. NOTE: if you plan on racing, turn the VDC off. Otherwise it will retard the throttle when you chirp the wheels from 1st to 2nd gear.
