Slim PS2 480p DVD playback?

Ok, so I've got a 37" 720p LCD and a PSTwo (i.e. slim PS2).

It's hooked up via component and I know the HD works because I can play GT4 in 1080i.

I tossed in a Best Motoring DVD and it came up displaying plain ol' 480i crap! I know the PSTwo has progressive scan, and so how do I get it to display as 480p? Shouldn't it happen automatically?

Did you check the settings in the ps2 set up menu?
