slightly burning oil, want to try to pass e check

I just picked up a 91 240sx se hatchback, I haven't failed e check yet but have notice after the engine heats up it starts to burn oil. I was wondering if I changed oil and put in something thicker, could this help keep oil from leaking past my rings enough to pass e check, until I can get the real problem fixed?...whatever that my be

that sounds like rings. you may be able to help it pass by dumping a gallon of denatured alcohol in the tank to lean it out.

In many states the previous owner must supply a valid [passing] emission test before the transfer is legal.

a little thicker oil would help that out, maby 10w-40 or lighter, depending on were you live and what winter temperatures you see
