I recently purchased my S14 and all though she drives great there is something going on with the front end/engine.

I have a slight vibration from the steering wheel that is starting to make my hands go numb after a few hours driving. I think the vibe is coming from the engine and is transmitted to the steering rack. Sometimes you can see the wheel vibrating and other times its rock solid. If I cruise down the road at about 40 then apply gas, I can feel the car resonate with a vibration, and if I let off the gas the vibe almost goes away. So I guessing its rpm dependant. If I rev it up w/o moving I really don't notice it as much. Only when moving.

Its a 98 240 w/auto. all stock with 186k. I've replaced the tires and had them balanced but that didn't help. I will be replacing the wheel bearings, struts, springs, ball joints, and whever else I can replace on the front. Just so I know its all new parts. The engine vibration is another thing.

Can anyone give some suggestions on what may be causing the engine to make the whole car resonate? Since it does have some high miles what else should I replace? Center-bearing support maybe?

check your motor mounts and trans mount. if the rubber in them has softened you will feel engine vibration through out the car.

I just bought my 97 240sx se about 2 weeks ago, and it also has a vibration in the wheel but it isnt when i accelerate. It is only when im going around 35 mph and up around 60 mph. I also had my tires balanced but i still get the vibration. But my radius arms need to be replaced soon so it might be that but i am not sure. Any help would be appreciated, and if it is the radius arms how much are they to buy and also are they hard to replace.

ok, I'll check the motor and trans mounts. If their soft then I should be able to see movement when torque is applied right? I guess it could't hurt to replace them anyway since it has so many miles.

If I put it in park and rev the engine to 2k rpms you can feel a numbing sensation from the steering wheel and the body of the car. Higher rpms you don't feel it so much unless the road is smooth. I checked to see if anything was making contact but all is good underneath. I did see two harmonic weights attached to the back of the exhaust.

yes movement should be seen when torqing the engine in foward and reverse gears.

Those weights are to help absorbe vibration dont remove them. by your description it sounds as though something from the engine/trans/exhaust is making contact with the body of the car at specific rpms. have someone sit in the car and hold it at the point the vibration is felt. You go under the hood and start grabing ahold of things mounted to the firewall ,fender wells, piping on the rack and have them honk the horn when the noise goes away. You will then have found the source of the vibration.
