slight thumping noise

What would cause a thumping noise in or around the transmission bell housing?you can only hear the noise inside the car and it makes the noise in park.it is the same sound you hear when your tension rod bushings are bad,(the noise you hear when you turn left or right)

thumping in the tunnel for the transmission? it could be your transmission shifting around with a blown transmission mount or the carrier bearing for the driveshaft has kicked the bucket.

if the carrier bearing is bad would it still let it bounce around even in park?

When you rev up the motor, does the frequency of the noise change? If you listen under the hood, is there any similar noise coming out of the motor?

no, you can only hear it from inside the car

If the noise doesn't change when reving up the motor, I would follow 180fan's suggestion about a bad transmission mount or maybe front motor mounts. Also check out the exhaust pipes hitting the body.

I just finished changing the motor mounts, but I haven't started her up yet. I will probably start her in the mourning and I'll give an update on the situation.

seems to fix my problem. it was the motor mounts, thanks for everybodys help.
