It has been awhile since I have posted. Since then I have turned my q45a into a q45 and some various other work to it. My recent problem with the car is when I go to start it in the morning. When I turn the ignition the rpms shoot up to around 1500-2000 then it drops back down to low rpms, and this repeats till it kills. After a few times of doin this in a row this morning it will start up somewhat normal, but still a little rough. Im not sure if this is related but yesterday on the way home the car stuttered then stalled while going up a small hill right by my house. Upon a few cranks of the ignition and a bit of gas it started back up with out killing. What is my problem?

Partial vacuum leak or bad MAF would be my first guess.

Possible fuel filter or fuel pump? Are you hearing a buzz from the back seat.

just got back from getting the transmission serviced. No problems yet. We shall see tomorrow morning.

I have never heard a Buzzing from the trunk. So im ruling out fuel pump.

zerothread?id=102297 some of these symptoms seem to fit my problem. Hopefully its gone now that I serviced the transmission.

I had a loose connection in my MAF plug/harness yesterday that was causing some crazy idle, rough running, stalling conditions. Wiggled the MAF plug and it cleared up....check the MAF. (Guys changing the oil must have changed the filter from the top yesterday)

I dont think a bad maf would cause the car to die.....

But it really sounds like a vaccum leak somewhere...

Yep it does...... Random stalling is a common occurance with a bad MAF

I take that back...sorry. Ive had 4 bad maf experiences with my vq35 in the maxima...... and 1 bad one with a 1991 celica. None of them ever stalled. but it makes sense, since the connectors and what not are failing, instead of the MAF element im used to.

I had that same problem after I first put the plenum hoses back together. It turned out to be a vacuum leak, specifically the one coming *from* the IAC

It's more likely that it's the MAF though

Hard to call the missing 1" hose [ from IAC] a mere vacuum leak, as a hole this big after the MAF would allow 90% of the air to bypass the MAF............telling ecu nothing is flowing into engine....................because the MAF voltage drops from 1.2+ [at idle] to <0.8...........what ecu sees when you first turn key on before the starter engages. Way outside the range of possible normal conditions.

When I bought my Q, it had a poor idle and stalling out problem also- some hack over at Infiniti or Nissan (serviced at both dealers) did injectors on the car and broke the PCV hose. They put electrical tape over the hose to keep it from leaking, yet the leak was soo big that it felt like I had 2 bad injectors at times. After fixing that, the problem went away for a while... and then the warped cylinder heads with leaking coolant took over with the missfires

My freshly rebuild VH45 should be alive by ThanksGiving- I will post pics and thoughts after rebuild is completed.
