So every once in a while when I am going down a hill and engine braking to slow down I start to smell burning oil and when I give it gas a bit of grayish white smoke blows out the exhaust. This is the only time this happens, even under heavy acceleration the exhaust comes out clean. It has been 600 miles since I changed the oil and the it is still clean and the level doesn't appear to go down. Does anyone know what would cause this? O yeah, and the motor is a redtop sr that I swapped in 6000 miles ago.

check your water/coolant levels greyish/white smoke is water being burnt blueish grey smoke is oil being burnt and black is to much gas burning. check for any leaks under the hood and go from there

Well maybe i can't see the smoke soon enough to know the exact color but I can smell oil burning very clearly. I can smell it while I am driving because there is a crack that recently formed in the turbo manifold so its leaking exhaust in the engine bay. The only external leak I know of is a very slow drip from the drain tube of my catch can.

Ok.. well I found someone that said smoke during deceleration was caused buy bad valve guides or seals... sound right to anyone? If so, is it ok to keep driving it like this?

Yes it is your valve guides (AKA valve seals)

You can keep driving but the problem will only get worse as time goes on. Also if your area has anytype of smog testing you probably will have a hard time passing.

I have not done the guides myself but I have heard that it is not hard. The machine shop did mine for $15 when they checked the head (KA24E)

Find a time to fix it but it can wait for now.
