I have a '93 5 spd with an intermittent issue. I would say about half the time when I start up and begin driving the car I have a slight jerking at about 1500-2000 rpm's. It is most prominent in 4th and 5th gears and when I depress the gas pedal slightly. If I drive the car "gingerly" the problem continues, but if I "get on it", let's say in 2nd gear and continue to shift and accelerate normally after, it goes away. I also notice that when it's in its "jerking" mood and I come to a stop, it idles rough for a few seconds then smoothes out. Could this be a valve sticking?

Check timing, ohm your injectors, check your spark plugs. That's what I'd try first, in that order.

Also, vacuum leaks near the throttle bodies. Specifically, the lines for the carbon canister on the driver's side, and the similarly placed lines on the passenger side. Roll the throttle back slowly at idle, and listen around for any hisses. If you hear one and can't track it down, use a piece of hose to your ear to do so.
