Hi all,

I've got a 05 G35 Sedan and i've noticed this a couple of times. last 2 were quite obvious and i wanted to get some input before i head to the dealer.

As soon as i pull the car out from a parked position and the car is at 5-10mph there is a slight grinding noise that *seems* to come from the transmission. i have my foot on the brake once and i distinctly felt it, like the grinding was resonating in the brake pedal.

this never happens when i start off from red lights etc.

any ideas what this could be? i checked the brake/transmission fluid. all was good. brake pads looked good to me too.

thanks for the help!

Does this happen right after you start the car or after you have been driving for a while?

What you described sounds like the ABS test that the vehicle does every time u start the car... which is normal.

Yep this only happens when i start the car and start driving. But in the mornings, i warm up the car for like 1 minute before driving, would the ABS test happen so late after starting the car?

i can definitely feel it on the brake pad sometimes which seems very weird.

Is it right after it rains? Or has it been extra humid lately? Might be a thin layer of rust on the discs. When you first start driving it wears off after braking. But more than likely it's the ABS system.

Yes, the ABS wont perform the test until you start moving forward and reach a certain speed, even if the car sits idle for a long time before that.

I think your car is fine.

It's definitely your ABS...nothing wrong.

Mine does this right before it shifts into 2nd gear after sitting for a while.

The dealership I took it to said they all do this and it is normal.

if it is not the abs maybe it is your clutch. Is it a stick?

The ABS self check will happen right after the first time it shifts from 1st to 2nd, and if you put your foot on the brake during this time you may feel the grinding on the pedal. Its totally normal.

My car does it too but as all the others have said this normal. Actually I managed to catch it in the middle of it's test yesterday morning after the rains here when I left for work and hit the brakes for the first speed bump and when they're slightly wet you notice it even more cause you'll catch it in what seems like almost a void of brake power for a split second. I mean it will still stop but the pedal feels like it's recalibrating itself almost. Hard to describe but it never does it any other time unless the brake fluid gets low and you rail a canyon.
