So I washed and waxed the car today, was going to do it last night but it got put on hold. I have started to take off the wax and its leaving marks just like the way it was put on. These marks/streaks, whatever you want to call them, are all over my hood now and as far as I can tell, not on the passenger side. I'm still in the process of removing it. I have waxed my own car since I've had one, which isn't too long, but its been 6 years, and I've never had this happen to me. I've been using this wax as a base coat for those 6 years, its just your standard Turtle Wax carnauba wax. Does wax have a shelf life or something, because the tub I have is a few years old? What about heat, light? I will admit I tried to rush it, I was in the shade and the sun shifted on me so it was hitting the car in certain areas. How can I get rid of these...am I going to have to go to a body shop? HELP...freaking out!

I know this should be posted in the exterior forum, but I need responses now.

Also, on trunk lid and rear section of driver's side so far. I've brought out ScratchX, currently trying that.

I think it does! The paste wax can get dry and then that will cause a lot of scratching!

It creates like a dull look on the clear coat. I always use a liquid wax for this reason!

Try some Clay and see if it comes back to normal!

Well ****. I've looked on the container, there's nothing that says use by or anything that warns of this sort of thing. Nothing easily decipherable as an expiration date, I have printed numbers 05013, but I probably bought it in 05 and have used it since. Its bad, especially on the trunk lid, still can't tell if its on the passenger side, will have to wait until light conditions allow. Its almost like the wax created a super bond to the car. Man

Dawn soap, rewash then try waxing with some good wax. I HIGHLY recommend this like of products. It's all that I've used on the G35. Superior to anything else I have ever used.

^can't argue with Beaner cause his car looks great!!!

Would do what he recommends. I've had great luck with Zaino and their swirl remover polish.

Thanks guys. I tested an area with ScratchX, didn't do too much, but I probably didn't wait long enough for it to dry. I thought about the dish soap, I'll be getting up early in the morning to rewash. I'll definitely use a different wax, I have my NXT wax, I just wanted to put down a good base coat because the NXT seems to wear out kinda quickly. So if it works, NXT wax tomorrow, and some good pictures like I promised.

Well actually scratch that, just checked the weather...rain and t-storms all day tomorrow. What a f'in great weekend with everything else goin on...stopped taking off the wax when I heard that my friend ended up in the hospital due to a car accident and went to go see her. I only had a little section left on the bottom of the driver's door to go...imagine that--a G flying down the freeway with a patch of wax still on it haha.

Smokey,

Sorry to hear your troubles. I always use dishwasher soap. That's how I start.

I hope she is ok and your car will be ok too.

So is it a consensus then that wax can have a shelf life or it was something else with the wax or was this due to my mental lapse and let the sun get to the car (I thought I had a good spot as it is where I usually wash and wax in the evening and since it was afternoon I wouldn't have this problem...there's a clearing through which the sun can get down that I miscalculated on)? Trying to learn from my mistake so I never repeat this again. Thanks again guys, I'm feeling slightly better that dish soap seems to be the consensus to fix it...hopefully it'll work and they aren't actually scratches.

If there are minor scratches and or swirl marks, look at this. Now, there is no need for you to wetsand the car. But if you get the 3M perfect-it Foam Polishing Pad Glaze, and use that, it will remove any swirl/scratches you have.

So here's my verdict. Some of it was removable, the rest are scratches. I went out this morning to take off the last small patch of wax and took a look around again. I tried wiping down the trunk again, nothing. The hood on the other hand, some of it came off. I only tested small areas, so I washed it with Dawn. The trunk lid is definitely swirl marks, scratches, whatever you want to call them. I however don't have a garage nor the practice to buff it out myself. So since it looks like I have to get the trunk buffed out, might as well have the whole car done. How much should I expect this to cost me? The swirl marks aren't deep at all, you can't feel them, but you can see them, so it shouldn't be too much of a job.

I'd say about $200 to have someone who knows how to use a buffer do it properly. Take it to a reputabe shop, or you may end up with a worse probem than you have now.
