First, I do want to mention I've had my 2006 M35X for almost 2 years. Has almost 160k miles and for the most part, I've enjoyed owning the car. But besides the sun roof problem, I have had a myriad of drive train issues. I've had to replace both front wheel bearings, the right front CV shaft and the front propeller shaft. The AWD front drive train is not very robust. I do pull a small utility trailer with the car once in a while, but I don't pull much weight and not very often. In contrast, my last Lexus LS400 went 300k miles and I pulled up to a 21 foot boat behind the car without any issues at all. Also, I must say I miss the power of that 4 liter 8 cylinder engine. Wish I would have bought the M45x instead of the M35x. Also, not a fan of the cruise control. It slams on the brakes and speeds up like crazy when following other vehicles. My mileage drops way down using the adaptive cruise control. Which takes me to my last beef about the car. I only get 18-19 MPG where my LS400 got 22+ MPG from a larger engine.

Sorry, been saving up the complaints. Not sure if others have the same issues. Anyway, my sun roof will not close automatically. I have to jockey with the switch until it closes completely shut. It doesn't automatically open when I hit the switch as well. To open the roof, I have to hold down the button until its done. Any ideas?? Sensor?

I have seen sunroofs do that after the bay is disconnected or subsumed just sitting unused for a long time.
There is a reset procedure probably in the manual, but usually just close it then hold on to the tilt-close switch for 5 seconds or so then try your auto sliding feature. See if that works

Off topic, what kind of towing setup do you have? Uhaul hitch & harness?

Thanks, I had tried resetting the sunroof before, but did it wrong. I reset all the windows and they all work like a champ. The car had sat for a while until I got my propeller shaft replaced. Another beef. Cannot replace the U-joints. I could have ground the tabs and pressed the U-joint off the yoke, but would have had to spot weld it back into place. Also, because the U-joint had disintegrated, it knocked a piece of steel off the yoke.

Regarding the trailer hitch, I had U-Haul put one on. The ONLY one I could find for the car. Was listed as a 2007, but of course fit perfectly on my 2006. U-Haul was the only place that carried a hitch for my LS400 as well. But will say the LS400 is better suited for towing, drive train wise. The stiff suspension on the M35X and AWD does a nice job towing, but even with a light load, will downshift up hills. But if you have a small utility or motorcycle trailer you want to tow, it does just fine. And of course, the reason I tow with the car is it sure beats the hell out of driving a pick up truck. I live in a red neck town and probably 90% of the pick up beds never see anything beyond empty beer cans!

Glad it worked out for you.

Thanks for the info on the hitch. I probably need to make my own hitch. I change vehicles too frequently to commit to buying a new one every time. I am looking at getting a utility trailer to haul my large objects around. For example motorcycles plus a lot of engine work going on this summer and I want to keep driving my fun sedans when I lug them to the machine shops and back.

The U-Haul hitch was $250. Well worth the price. Its a nice unit, custom made for the M35. Installation was about $150. Also well worth it. LOTS of work, including wiring.

Years ago, I started with a Harbor Freight trailer. Got hit in the back 5 times, including at 3:00 AM on a Chicago Freeway hauling two motorcycles. The guy fell asleep at the wheel and hit the trailer at about 70 MPH. I was doing 55 or so and it was starting to snow. Luckily he hit me square and the trailer popped off the hitch and I dragged it to the side using the chains. If he had hit me from an angle the trailer may have started to cartwheel. Crushed the trailer to the back wheels of the bikes, but did not harm them. I wrapped the chain around the hitch (the receiver was also crushed) and dragged it to a hotel. The guy (eager to keep this quiet) bought me a utility trailer with a folding gate at Lowes the next morning. Still have that trailer. Bigger, easier to load (no tiny folding ramps) and it was lower to the ground. Installed lights on the gate and have never been hit in the back. The HF trailer was too low when empty for people to see it at a traffic light. Or they were just careless. In Florida, a Pepsi truck (I'm a Coke man), slid into it and dinged up the HF trailer pretty good. It had just started raining in Kissimmi and he just couldn't get stopped in time. Always scared the crap out of me to pull that trailer behind me. The folding gate type is way better visibility and utility wise. And it can be used to haul almost anything.

Man, the typos up there. I shouldn't trust my "smart" phone as much as I do.

Quite an adventure with your trailers, eh?
If I keep my current fleet, I might just spring for the uhaul hitch & receiver and visit Lowe's/ Menard's for now. I don't mind doing the labor. If my tasks get bigger I might have to sell off the SUV and get a beater truck
