Anyone here ever sleeve a block before? I have an extra one sitting in my garage and I was thinking about sleeving it and rebuilding.

i have sleeves for my spare block.. although i hear they are not necessary if you are making less than 500 horsepower. my other motor is goin to be shooting around 500, so i want to be safe

I need to use them mostly for specs. If I bore my block back to roundness, it will be pushing .040 over, and I don't want to risk it.

I was quoted 90 per hole to sleeve and then 100 to clean and bore all of them from a local machine shop.

I've seen them from one of the sponsors for around $120 a sleeve. I have access to the equipment, I was just wondering if anyone knows the process of doing. Like how much material needs to be bored from the block and the clearances for pressing them into place.

sleeving is best left to shop with TOP Notch rep and experance. we have had some done by shops with good rep that turn out very bad, and cost us lots of $$$$ to get it redone with a new block. there are only 2 or 3 place that we would recommond, but there MIGHT be others but be careful it can be a $$$$ mistake..

Stock sleeves hold over 500hp. Its the pistons that take the abuse. Go on freshalloy. Chris from RS-Enthalpy tore down Scott (Enthalpy) old 539whp SR20 and the sleeves were perfect but the pistons is what seemed wore. I havnt done any block work but i only see people resleeving the block when going 87mm or 90mm pistons.

do you have to bore out the sleeves when you go to 86.5mm pistons, or do they just drop straight in?

Considering stock bore is 86mm, you will definitly need to bore the stock sleeves some. No big deal, its like .020" over stock i believe. Its just enough boring to clean the cylinder walls. I wouldnt resleeve untill going 87+mm or something extreme happened to the stock sleeves.
