My wife's in a summer work study program a few hours from my house, and I try to visit her every couple of weeks. This weekend I went out Friday night for a concert and came back Saturday, but they don't have anywhere to stay other than a rudimentary campground.

So I tried out the Versa as a camper, and was quite impressed! I took off the passenger seat headrest, pulled the seat full forward and laid the seatback down flat. Not quite enough room for a six-footer to stretch out, so I figured I'd have to curl up a bit. But I folded down the back seat and found it to be very comfortable, having my legs raised just a bit with my head by the glove compartment.

The only problem was that it rained on and off during the night, so I kept having to wake up, turn the key and close or open the windows, and it was a bit too warm to keep them shut until about 3am...

Haha. Interesting. I did something similar. I was having a very lovely discussion, for lack of a better word, with a female. And I wanted to get out of the house. So I walk to my V and I leaned the seat back and we ended up talking for about 5 hours. Very comfortable.

TrustME - taking your V's virginity so soon? lol

kc5f - Driving and fixing stuff all day for a living can sometimes wear down on the nerves, so periodically my body wants to shut down momentarily mid-day. I have found the V to be the single most comfortable car to just pull over in a park, drop the driver's seat, and lay back in. I probably do it 3 times a week, and get a quick half hour nap to recharge me and get me back on the road.

After just two weeks of driving the V, I took the Tucson out for a spin the other day and realized just exactly how soft the memory foam makes the seat. It's like you're driving in a bed sometimes.

I've napped in the driver's seat, too, and I started out Friday night in the partially-reclined driver's seat, since some overly-greasy pizza that night was talking to me... Once I felt I no longer needed to worry about that, though, I was quite surprised at the comfort of laying down. And yes, I really hate driving my wife's car (or my daughter's old car), now, knowing what the V's seats feel like.

I've actually found that I like to just lean the driver's seat back slightly and place my legs in the passenger seat. Josh and I will be sleeping in the Camel during our road trip... I'm not sure how that'll work out... (Plus ol' bailiff said something about going, but I think he was joking... still, I had about 3 minutes of freak-out wondering how we would all sleep comfortably... even if one person is driving... that means I'll be in the backseat of my own car while we're moving... not sure what I think of that ;oD)

Though my friends and I, after I took home the first V, found that if you have the iKey and if you are drunk, your friends can toss your butt in the rear seat and drive your car home, even if the keys are with you in the back seat.

(no, we weren't drunk... I just sat in the back with the keys and let my friend drive)

I really wanted this thread to be about someone who was homeless and living in the Versa. Sadly, it was not.

yea too bad that wont work in KY if you are anywhere near your car with keys you are still guilty of DUI.

Kimber might be able to look this up in the KRS statutes.

but being that someone else is actually driving then you are probably safe.

but throwing your keys in your trunk and going to sleep in your car in KY will still get you a DUI.

If you're sleeping it off in the parking lot or driveway of the place you were drinking an officer would be an idiot to write you a DUI. He'd be sending a message that he would rather have drivers out on the roads under the influence than people who are responsible enough to sober up before they start their cars.

I can see him writing one if you decide after you've started driving home and then stop because you've aready been driving under the influence.

Yup! he speaketh the trutheth!

wondering with a group of people toward your car, you're the only one drunk, but it's your car and you have possession of the keys? DUI.

I can look up the KRS number if people want me to... but I think it's more of a technical thing... it's held up so many times that it isn't questioned. (mostly because people in Kentucky who are drunk and heading toward their cars are actually going to drive and they admit to it...)

What if you break into someone else's car to sleep? Obviously you can't drive it... no keys period.

I have more experience than I ever wanted with sleeping in a Versa...Having just gotten done with a 2 day car trip from Kentucky to Washington...

The best way, in my opinion, to be comfortable (especially when the vehicle is in motion) is to lay the passenger's seat down (you know, refresh mode) and then sit in the back seat with your legs on the front seat... then pillow to the side window and lean over and aaahhhh....

getting two people seated comfortably after the first 30 hours of being in ANY vehicle is a challenge... and when we landed, I was sooo happy to lay on a futon... and to take a shower...

(I am actually using EV's laptop... ;oD)

I try to make a point of getting to the gym after work early enough to take a 30 min nap. Kick back the seat, get my little squishy pillow and I am set.

Sitting across both front seats is good too and also with your feet propped up out the window.

I will have to try the back seat one of these days. I wonder if you could cram some kind of large pillow into the hatchback area with the back seat laid down for some R&R....throw in a little blanket and who needs a hotel?

I will tell you that a custom subwoofer enclosure that is the same height as the seats folded down makes a great floor to lay out a futon mattress. worked like a charm

yah with the back seeats folded down and putting a couple of pillows in the trunk area in the HB does make a pretty comfortable bed.

Try laying the other way, though. With your head in the trunk you're mostly laying on the harder seatback. The other way, I was impressed with how comfortable the seats were for my upper body, and my legs didn't mind the seatback at all.

You really don't want a photo of me in there... Maybe I can get my daughter to demonstrate, instead!

But basically just put it in "refresh mode", with the passenger seat reclined flat against the back seat (after removing the head restraint and pulling the seat forward), lay down the back seat on the same side, and lay down with your head near the dash and your feet in the trunk area.

(If you're less than six feet tall, you can leave the back seat up and be even more comfortable.)

Kimber, did you happen to take a trip to Washington for PAX?
