wondering what everyones sleeper car is....you know,,,an incredible car that the general public missed,,i.e. failed to buy. my first is easy....the Q also owned a 92 subaru svx. the power and grip were incredible. would have been much better with a manual. put firestone SV50'S on it, couldn't get a loss of grip,,,that awd was incredible. would have benifitted from more horesepower. came with 230 and a boxer,,,,thanx porsche! Input???? jeff

i think the Q45 is one of the top sleepers on my list, but my definition of sleeper is a little different than yours.. mine is like.. cars that dont look like they could rhomp you but when you race, they do. i have actually thought about getting stickers made from like http://www.stickerguy.com or someone saying "sleeper" for the Q45, but the more i think about it, the less i like it. but then again, stickers are prone to add more hp, especially these stickers. if you take a look at the link, youll notice that apc is selling those things you put on notbook paper so that the 3 holes dont rip, except thes are for your car. vroom vroom. :D -marty

I have always smiled as we used to call your “sleeper” car, a “Q” car when I was a kid in SoCal - like a James Bond special that could kill you a million different ways as soon as look at ya - and knock you out w/looks in the process.

How damnably appropriate to have a Q45 in the house

Currently, would say an S8 as the styling is pretty tame - little to alert the rice burners - how ‘bout them ole 440/426 irons in the old Dodges or the big block Ford Interceptors in plain wrappers ?

BWTH - spool up the turbos, dump a lil’ Nitrous in her - anyone can get slap-happy these days - you better take a peek before you put up the pinks !

Sentra SE-R in stock form or with a turbo charged SR20 running 18 lbs of boost with stock 200 SX SE-R rims. My good friend John has this exact combo and that lil SE-R is brutal.

I would also include the S8. Of course, you can't forget the Q:

I think the 240 with the SR swap will make a mean sleeper. That's why I got mine. Put down about 300+ hp to the wheels and it's nasty!

My 1989 Maserati 430. It looked like a Volvo and had an automatic transmission, but the 0-60 times were high-5s, low-6s. Still the fastest auto I've ever driven, all Qs included. I never had a problem leaving ANYTHING in the dust. My favorite racing story was when I dusted a mid 1990s Mustang Cobra, and the redneck rolled his window down to ask "what the hell is that thing? A Corolla?" Can't get anymore sleeper than that.

Regal T-Type with the GN turbos.

My uncle's brown '68 Electra 225, rust-lightened body, beat to hell, with a warmed-over 455, headers, manifold, International Harvester mufflers and a 100-shot of NOS....interior gutted, "baby on board" sticker... Damn thing is legendary in South Jersey LOL.

John B----gorgeous Q baby!!! wow

As for a sleeper, an svt contour was actually pretty fast and most people didn't know a thing about them. that aren't fast enough to make it an all time sleeper but for awhile a saw plenty of them whoop some unsuspecting tail. I also liked the volvo s70 wagon turboed. Those babies flew!!

1969 ZL1 COPO Camaro. Aluminum block 427, no stripes, no markings, steel wheels with little hubcaps. One of the baddest cars ever made as a production car in the States. They only made 69 of them because the engine upgrade cost more than the car. The only indication it was anything special was the cowl induction hood. There was also a COPO Camaro that year with an iron block 427 that was also a great sleeper.

Wow Jason B. Making me think harder about getting a new Q. I hope they decide on all-wheel drive to compete with the new LS.

Hmm, I think there's a 1990's Buick Roadmaster with the Vette LT-1 motor, that's gonna catch some people off guard. I'd also have to echo most of the Audi S & RS comments. A few badges do give you a clue, but they don't scream fast car.

I think there was a Mazda 323 STX or something like that. It was AWD turbo. My brother in Washington state picked one up about 2 years ago and has been having a blast with it ever since.

I guess the sleepiest sleeper would be the school bus yellow 1972 Datsun 510 2 guys used to cruise around the little town in GA I went to high school in, it had a 300Z turbo motor in it and would SMOKE anything. I once witnessed it beat a Hemi Cuda in the quarter.

I saw a Ford Festiva in some performance magazine. It had like 350hp. It had a bunch of body work though. I woulda kept the stock body, let it rust a little. Now that would be a sleeper. Who'd see it coming? It's genius! Hehe

I think that the cadillac fleetwoods (94-96) are the biggest (literally). You do not expect to be blown away by this big boat. They are almost as quick as the Qs, but its easy to make them faster (you can get a cam to upgrade it to an LT4). Obviously, they dont handle as well, but that is made up for when your on the highway, you feel like your on a cloud. I got the opportunity to drive one this weekend, and I liked it about the same as the Q.

The thing I noticed with it was: The Q was designed with a lot of detail and seemed like it was designed in pieces. Everything in the caddy just seems to fit together better.

You, Sope and Hitman are right on. An even bigger sleeper is a T-Type with that ugly-arse Landau roof. Looks like Granny's car and will smoke a stock, LT1-powered B-Body.

See a pic of my old T-Type here:

An under-rated sleeper of sorts: the Porsche 928. The first front-engine car that Porsche attempted (in late seventies or early eighties - I do not recall exactly) . They did not sell too many, but the car was awesome. Fast acceleration, good handling, reasonably reliable, but did not sell well to traditional Porsche buyers - who were more expecting the rear-engine behavior/peculiarities of the 911.

Sounds like a 323GTX. They were available for only two years, and a FWD 4 door sedan version called the GT was made for only one year, and is an even bigger sleeper because it looked like a regular 323 sedan except for the wheels. I had one, and it was a great car. With a boost controller and exhaust it was faster than mid 80s f-bodies, much to their surprise.
