I read an article today that absolutely blew my mind. It said that one in four couples sleep in separate bedrooms. They also expect that 60% of new custom home construction will request dual bedroom master suites. What's the point of being with someone if you don't sleep together? I know some people snore and that is disturbing, but there are things you can do for that. Is it really bad enough to sleep alone?

I'll admit that I don't sleep as well with my wife, but only because she's an ultimate snuggler and I it makes it hot as crap in the bed -.o, but I wouldn't want to sleep seperately because of it..

Read that article this morning before I got off work. It only really makes sense to me if someone has sleep problems so bad that the spouse is straight getting no sleep at all.

Even when I'm dating, I typically prefer to sleep alone. After doing slimy stuff I'm happy to drop her off at home or move myself to the couch. Some girls find that insulting, but oh well. The only company I care for in the bed is the dog. He stays at the foot of the bed and minds his own business.

I'm more comfortable sleeping next to someone I'm not intimate with or in a relationship with.

lol @ slimy stuff.
From the way you talk, i'm guessing they don't mind that you leave afterwards. :p

So you'd rather sleep with someone you not intimate w/ or in a relationship? So WHO do you sleep witH? Cuz it sounds like you've narrowed to mom and sis or your buddies -.- ;p

I actually find myself opposite of the article. My wife seems to sleep like a rock when I sleep with her, but she's restless if I stay up in the living room after she goes to bed.

If sleeping alone keeps the marriage happy, I'm not going to judge.

People snore, people drool, people fidget and twist around, people steal the covers, people can't find a mattress both of them like etc. Do what you gotta do to not poison their oatmeal.

Mr. and Mrs. mad rack out together in a bed I built. She snores, I drool; we still love each other.

I came in here thinking you were asking. Thanks for ruining my day, Bex.

A married couple not sleeping together does strike me as odd. I can understand in some cases where the couple hates each other or whatever, but 25%?!? That's ridiculous. If I ever have a wife and I get to the point where we aren't sleeping in the same bed, I'll probably be more worried about the chain breaking and the body floating to the surface than the same bedroom deal.

I'm not really surprised. I'm sure there is a correlation with how long you are married and the likelhood of that happening. I would think it's much less likely with newlyweds.

Lots of older couples do this due to specific sleeping needs, snoring, special beds etc...

I know a big issue is people not being able to be comfy in the same bed...ie woman wants soft, man wants firm, etc. Everyone should get a sleep number bed!

I have no problem with the idea of sleeping in separate beds... As long as both parties are cool with it...
I went through about an 18 month period where I slept in a different room than my wife... Before I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, I snored really bad.. that snoring would wake up my wife and bug her, so then she'd wake me up to tell me to turn on my side so I didn't snore... but I'd roll right back over on my back and snore away... and repeat cycle.. Then when she was pregnant, she had a harder time sleeping and it got worse..

Now that I have a cpap machine I don't snore anymore, so we can both sleep comfortably in the same bed again. BUT, we have king size bed. I neither of us like to be touching at all when we sleep. The contact makes us too hot and uncomfortable. That doesn't mean we don't touch before we go to sleep.. But, when you're asleep, who cares where you are and if you're in the same bed.. your asleep..

I am a crazy loud snorer with hip problems and am always hot. I would sleep alone a lot of the time if Michele didn't mind. That way I could get away from her jamming her knee in my spine throughout the night too.

I know couples who fall into this category. In every case it involves apnea.

I hope it becomes more socially acceptable. I cannot get quality sleep with someone else in the bed.

I love sleeping in the same bed as Lindsey, but we CANNOT be touching. My body runs pretty hot (due to what she thinks is a hyperactive thyroid) and I will start sweating easily. I don't sleep with covers on most of the time. There HAS to be a fan on in the room, mostly for the added cooling effect and partly because I can't sleep without a little white noise. I would never consider just sleeping in a different place though.

Its an emotional space issue. When someone is close, I need my bed as a private personal bubble, a place where I can be completely alone and do my thinking, scheming, and planning. I'd say 90% of my plans and ideas come from the 15 minutes prior to falling sleep. If someone isnt that close, I dont really care if they're there.

Its hard to sleep alone, since my wife is a little scared of sleeping alone. I don't mind it, but she always has to have me close.

I couldn't ever sleep in a different bed but me and my wife sleep turned away from each other at night and have since the first week we were married. We both are like heaters if we try to cuddle up and can't sleep or get comfortable. Other than that though we sleep pretty well, I just wish I could go to sleep as easily as my wife... she can be talking to me and fall asleep in the middle of a sentence if the lights are out.

I'm sure many people have their own reasons other than not loving each other, well hopefully at least. I'm a light sleeper and if my fiance starts snoring it wakes me up right away, but I'd rather wake up several times and give him a nudge than sleep by myself.

dude...it always seems like you're in the deepest, best sleep, then get woken up from a tug on the tool....I hate that. Well, as much as I can hate someone playing with my junk anyway...

I don't mind using the same bed, so long as its a big one. The lady will more often than not sleep diagonally in the center of the bed leaving me with a triangle. Thankfully, shes a sound sleeper so I can roll her over and while she'll complain ans swear at me profusely, she has no recollection of it in the morning.

Same here, minus the married part. I'm WAY to hot when I'm sleeping and she gets cold. Its a good mix so long as the a/c and the fan are on.

Funny you should bring this up, one of our local morning DJ's was on the news about this same thing.

http://www.wmmr.com/shows/preston-and-s ... D=10127922

Personally I like the idea, I get up hours before the GF does and personally have a hard time going to sleep without the TV on, plus she gets up several times a night to pee and wakes me up when she gets in and out of bed. Plus I'm not a fan of having a conversation when it's time for me to go sleep, when my head hits the pillow it means I'm going to sleep, not I'm ready to have a heartfelt conversation or an argument.

I'm really surprised. I figured there would be more people who said they wanted to sleep in bed with their partner, regardless. I'm not slamming anyone, all your arguments are valid and completely understandable. I guess I am just even luckier than I thought.
