well i had a new clutch installed about a year ago and i thought it was beginning to slip. so i took it back to the mechanic that did the job and asked him about it. he test drove it and told me that it wasnt slipping at all. a few days before that i bled out the clutch system and it helped a bit but when i pushed in the black rubber boot on the slave cylinder brake fluid came out of it. i repeated it a few times to make sure i wasnt going crazy and yes it kept leaking out of the black rubber boot. it that an indication that the slave cylinder it going bad? the fluid resivore it still full and there is no fluid leaking out of it on the ground it only leaks when i manually push on it from the bottom of the transmission. is it supposed to do that or is the slave going bad? and if it is going bad should i also replace the master cylinder with the slave bacuase the mechanic said it would be best. he was saying that a master would be around 175.00 bucks remanufactured. i bout crapped my pants because i looked them up before i went there and they were under 100 bucks. *******!!! but any suggestions would be helpfull and maybe some websites that sell good quality parts.

The slave's probably going bad. Gte a replacement from a local parts stoe for it (and a Master if you want) and replace 'em yourself for a lot cheaper. ;)

are they pretty easy to install? i dont have a repair manual or anything. would i be able to just take off the old one and replace it with the new one without many complications?

You can get a master and slave cyl. from advance auto or someplace similar for about $50 for the pair (both are new and NOT remanufactured). As far as the install goes the slave is a breeze, you just have 2 bolts and the line (no fluid should ever leak out of the boot). The master is still simple but you have to get under the dash and adjust the rod coming into the pedal only tighten it until you start to feel tension on the rod( sounds way harder than it actually is ) I would recommend replacing both AND bypassing that stupid dampener down there on the framerail, it will improve pedal feel and simplify the bleeding process. Hope this helps, if ya need anymore details on the process just ask ( I think that just about everyone on here has done this at one time or another lol )

hey thanx. can u believe that the mechanic told me it would be 170.00 bucks for a used master cylinder and about 50 for a slave. i wont take it to them ever again.

i have another question for anyone else. is there anyone in the seattle /tacoma area or in washington that knows of a good nissan repair shop to take my car to. i think i am having some electrical problems on top of the clutch problem that i already have.

Well, it is very simple but you need to be careful. Just undo the line coming into the dampener from the master cylinder. Then undo the line from the dampener to the rubber hose at the hose end. Then remove the dampener from the vehicle and toss it in the trash where it belongs. The next part is where you need to be very careful. Take the line coming from the master cylinder and GENTLY bend it around towards the hose until it reaches, it is pretty simple just be careful not to kink the line or you will have to replace it. then just screw the line into the hose and bleed the system. It isnt a bad job at all, it took me about 10 minutes, but just take your time and you shouldnt have any problems.

bleed at the slave. above the hydraulic line you'll see a bleeder valve. Get a hose that'll fit (clear hose is a good idea to let you know you don't have any bubbles) and a cup filled with brake fluid in the cup and the line. Fill the master and pump the pedal a few times and then open the valve at the slave and close. pump the pedal again a few times (I do about 10 pumps) and hold the pedal down while the valve gets opened and closed. repeat until the bubbles are gone.
