Guys, I was burning through some picture threads the other day and i saw a custom radiator and intercooler thing, dont know if its considered a vmount or what but it had the radiator mounted kinda like a 90's model firebird, dont know if anyone has tried this in the forums, i know you lose some throttle response with a front mount so this might be kinda fun to make, especially since there is a pretty big gap between the motor and the radiator support brace when the fan is removed, if you think this is just a waste of time for the shorter tubing on the intercooler and stuff let me know ill just forget about it, just thought it looked interesting and like it could be somewhat useful.

it was like this

/ <--- intercooler\ <---- radiator

thanks ahead of time for some insight, this would also make it so I can use a full size battery without having to relocate it which would also be nice but the custom radiator stuff might not be worth the hassle just for a bigger battery.... currently I have the stock sidemount but I'm going for a GT28R soon to replace my smoking turbo and I want a better intercooler while I'm at it, front mount or this custom thingy....

and I am reading through some of the searched articles just wanted some fellow CA owners input, most of the posts on all of the searched threads are just people flaming someones legit questions.....

its called a V-mount setup, yo must have a VERY good radiator or floww will be horrid.

yea after some more reading i decided that a vmount was the correct terminology, not something i had ever realized that anyone did other than the slanted radiators on firebirds, least that was the first one i had ever seen... my car doesnt really get too hot even in the middle of summer in houston still stays a little below the middle of the temp gauge, so I dont think ill need to worry too much about heat, and i usually am pretty rough on it, I do plan on doing that GT28R and if i went vmount i would get some thin aluminum to make some nice ducting and run my electric fans, i was looking at it today and i think i could set it up without having to cut any of the radiator brace thing... too early cant think of the name, I would have to blast a nice slot in my hood but that wouldnt really bother me, hood has a few dents anyways, and i have a spare set of top radiator mounts that i would cut and modify to make some new mounts for the radiator, then just some custom hose lengths and some short intercooler tubing I would think, anything else that I should run on it for a vmount? maybe cut some bumper material out to get even more flow or something?

i wanted to go vmount for the longest time unti l i went to my local shop(ZeroLift) and thalked to the owner, whom i know, and the vmount with even a good koyo was running hot, the coolant would lay in the radiator too long causing poor flow through the radiator and back into the motor, they had a custom radiator made and did verything custom .

its a hard process. i am going with a water to air intercooler setup. not too pricy and VERY effective. DIY pipe kit and a air/water kit for under $300. from this site, very nice and is what i want to do.

V mount is this

_ IC / radiator

usually there is a block off plate for the sides to divert air into both. often they will also opt for pushing AND pulling fans.

Also you would need a vented hood. I would mount the IC up top And have a large vent with louvers on the hood (similar to the R34 Z-Tune hood). This would create a low pressure zone at speed and encourage flow. You can do the same for the radiator with a custom fabbed undertray. You would also need blockoff plates leading the the hood and undertray.

The setup works, but you gotta look at aerodynamics to make it flow right.

alright guys, thanks for the info, my hood is pretty ugly as it is so i wouldnt feel bad cutting it up and venting it, I was planning on the blockoff plates to keep any air from passing by, my car doesnt seem to even get warm as it is so i doubt ill have to worry too much about not getting enough airflow to keep it cool but I am going to throw at least one electric puller fan on and a pusher if it starts overheating, I need to get this started soon cuz my stock turbo is getting worse all the time and I dont want to put a t28 on with my sidemount because of the added heat that it will be pushing, this seemed like it wouldn't be too hard to set up as long as i get the right stuff to do it
