Ruor is that some people have had there skylines taken by the federal gov. For not being up to legal specs due to the year and the lack tests done. It's a rumor, but i hear it's a legit thing that can happen. Only 95-98 R43's had the testing done. ( We all know the story behind that!) If you don't then were have you been? Those few select cars that actually had the testing done on them by motorex are truelly the only federally legal ones to own and drive in the us. Thats not to say your car is not legal in your state. Any who, the big stank is, is that i've heard around the rumor mill that some cars have been pulled from their owners hands at a big loss to the owner. If you know about this, or it's happened to you please let us know! And yes it could legally happen! Will it? Thats up in the air? I think it is not happening ! Yet!

I hear those R43s are bad ***. As far as I know R34s are not federal, only R33s. At any rate it would not suprize me if these were getting seized. The government won't let you have too much fun fellas.

you know when cars get seized, when they get to port.dumb kids think they can just buy a car from overseas and straight import it ,and customs will say come get your car.the govt is not going to spend the $ or waiste the resources to come after a car that has been cleared by customs.

Thats true, I've seen that. There's a place about 10 minutes away from my house that holds the cars seized from port and I talked to one person there because I ran in there when I saw 2 R33's sitting there(they were beautiful) and they told me that they just take them from the port if it doesn't meet the standards, I guess no questions asked. But than again, I am in socal.

Vit can happen but in reality 99.99% wont. why? because the cars are going to be state legal. they are only legal in your state. its the same thing as a custom made car or chopper. now if you move to another state that doesnt mean that your car will be acepted in that state. also a very important regulartion that the law states for kit cars. the safety issue its up to you since its a car that you made or assemble for you PERSONAL use and you know the consecuenses if you use a "less safe car" than what DOT says. NOW the car must pass the emision test of your state since that is requiered to every car in the country.

okay, here's a strange question. my r33 gts-t is state legal in MS. My drivers license is in Louisiana but the car is registered to my mom (who has a MS address). I have insurance on the car and am "staying" in CO (for school). i haven't been hassled yet and i know i'm always in-danger of losing my car.

but since the car is reg'd in MS, and I'm not a CO citizen, does my car have to meet CO standards (emissions, etc) or just MS standards (since that's where the car is registered)?

depending on where you are in colorado you don't have emissions, but a while back some dude had two skylines and went to jail for having them, they were illegally swapped is what i heard.

by illegally swapped, do you mean he pulled the vins from a 240 and put them on a skyline and tried to tell the police it was a 240? if thats the case then yeah, i understand why he went to jail. but mine isn't like that. so i'm not as worried.

I don't know if he swapped them, but he was driving them around and came to a autox all the vins had tape on them, he then transfered the cars to his dads name when him and his wife went to jail they got out and still have the cars I think, unless they crushed them lol.

hmm, which vins? the only easily visible vin on my car is the one under the hood on the firewall. it sounds like if he went to jail for the cars and not tickets or something stupid like that, he had swapped vins from a 240 and was trying to pass the car off as a 240.

i live in douglas county so i'm not sure if there are emissions stuff but my DL says Louisiana and thats still my permanent address, im just going to school up here but i'm living in an apartment with mine and my girlfriends name on it.

It's coming gents. All these cars have a paper trail. It will start with the guys that are bringing them in. The records will lead the feds to you and you will be sad. Keep thinking you are smarter than the authorities. They have chosen so far not to really come after you but if and when they do they will find your car. I don't give a rats *** one way or the other, I don't live there. I would like to get a musclecar here but that is ridiculously easy compared to getting a Skyline there.

It's not that I think I'm smarter than the authorities. It's that I think once the car is passed customs, it doesn't really matter as much to them. My car has been listed as "Skyline" in the DMV records for over a year now and (knock on wood) nothing has happened to me yet. Sure it has a paper trail but like I said, I don't think the federal government is going to come after me for this.

I've never heard of a car being taken away from a person because it was state legal. I've heard of them being seized at customs, and I've heard of them being taken away because the owner had legal issues. But never because the federal government showed up and took their car away.
