Sorry man, but according to everything that I have read, heard, seen (a local has a GT-St, so I get to listen to him b|tch about this) the Skyline is not EPA or DOT approved and cannot legally be driven on US roads without proper and proven modifications. From http://www.skylinegtr.com (MotorRex):

-"We have had to go though all of the mandatory requirements for the DOT and EPA . Including crash testing , air bag testing , and OBD II to meet the Code of Federal Regulation requirements. Since Nissan did not perform any of these requirements , we have independently completed the research and development. The pricing reflects our cost of reseach and development."

-"Some of the basic items that are changed are things such as US emissions, speedometer , crash structure , lighting , US VIN , warning , and information labels."

-"The vehicle gets the EPA modifications then it goes to the emissions lab for testing. The EPA testing will take approximately one week. Then the vehicle has a 15 day EPA hold. Once the vehicle is at our facility again it will take us approximately 2 weeks to make the necessary modifications and take the required pictures of the vehicle. Once the vehicle has been modified , and a compliance package put together and sent to the Department of Transportation , the vehicle goes into a mandatory 30 day DOT hold. Skylines less than 2 years old can not currently be offered for sale in California. For more information regarding this please read http://www.arb.ca.gov/html/lawsregs.htm . If the vehicle is for California , then after the DOT and EPA paperwork is cleared , the vehicle goes to the California referee center for California certification. After the vehicle is tested , then the vehicle once again goes into a hold - 5 days for California."

-"There are ways to import vehicles into the US. Normally they are imported as substaincially similar to a US model. Then what happens is anything that is different between the US DOT legal vehicle and the vehicle from overseas would need to be changed to be the same as a US model. For example - headlights , tailights , mph speedometer cluster. The DOT no longer accepts right hand drive cars as being substaincially similar to the US model unless the manufacturer provides information to the DOT stating the vehicles are substancially similar. Additionally the engine in the vehicle must be available in the US or the engine must be certified for the US."

So, no, in fact the GT-R is NOT legal to drive in the US fresh off the boat from JDM.

Dude, all your telling me is that if you want a legal GTR *STREET CAR* you have to get it from motorex/rbmotor. The car in the world challenge is a *RACE CAR* and will never touch public tarmac. They are only concerned with the fact that street legal GTRs *exist*, thus fulfilling world challenge rules.

To recap:-World challenge rules explane in effect that street legal GTR's must exist if you are to race a GTR in their series-Street legal GTR's exist

Motorex and the whole of california could be blown off the planet and it still wouldnt change the fact that the US government, via the EPA and DOT, have approved appropriatly converted GTR's for street use.

The car competing in the series doesnt have to have the conversion peices nessecary for street legalization (which only moterex/rbmotoring know in detail), because it isnt nessecary to have them for an off road vehicle.

I really dont know how to better explane this.

FINALLY, im tired of hearing "why v8, when you can put an I6 because its in a supra, skyline m3".Big ****en WOOPwell in 2006 F1 cars will be powered by v8s, DAMN they should have went down another step to I6, cuz supras, skylines, m3s dominate the global race scene thats why in '00 the M3 gtrs went to a v8 to beat the porsche Flat 6's in ALMS? & that is just 1 f'n example why a v8 is better for racing when speed, endurance and reliability come to mind. do i really need to mention 24/hour races with Audi R8s, Corvette C6rs?

sorry but v8>f6/i6/v6>i4/f4

any motor as long as it can clock the fastest lap time in any given track is best. whether it be i4, i6, v6, v8, v10, v12, rotary, boxer, supercharged, turbocharged, n/a whatever more pistons can't be bad it just depends on the weight distrubition.

more is better =) dual cams, more valves, more pistons,

if v8>f6/i6/v6/i4/f4 then v10>v8 and v12>v8... it depends on the track. if it's just a straight drag then we know what's better but try tight turning courses like autox and mountain runs... there we have miatas/MRspyders etc kicking arse. depends how much power you want and how much weight and how much money do you have for gas =)

most of us prefer lighter-midweight cars than heavier more powerful vehicles otherwise we wouldn't have chosen our dinky 240s as platforms. depends what you want to do with it...

well the only place smaller engines actually dominate is rally and maybe autocross, but other than that road racing is owned by v8s.

point is 4 or 6 cylinder cars will never break top speed, 1/4 mile records set by v8 or anything higher, the difference with big engines are:v10s v12s are for supercars, but v8s are for racecars.

the "we" term you stated is only because "we" or some of us cant afford fast cars at the moment so, "we" try to fix our 4 cylinders to be fast. btw my 240 is still bone stock, and i plan to sell it that way for a really high price since i never see one on ebay or craigslist for sale.

& i understand people have different tastes, but putting down a v8 and mentioning an I6 just because a skyline/m3/supra uses it is f'n retarded.

if v8s sucked so much, why are they getting the same gas mileage as turbo 4 bangers (evo's/sti's/srt4's) and weigh as light as some 4 bangers?

i guess my mentality is muscle/power but it is different strokes for different folks.
