hi,
have owned my GTST for 2 years and it has been faultless till now, its running HKS exhaust, induction kit, dual sbc boost control, ceramic paddle clutch and what seems to be a larger than standard turbo (with no markings on so dont really know)

every day running i was running it at .8bar boost, maybe turned up to 1 bar for a quick squirt from time to time.

recently when running and slowing down to stop, push in the clutch and the revs have drooped off and sometimes stalled. i continued to use the car in an attempt to source the problem i assumed was electrical (timing maybe??) but to my great horror when driving it the other day, a slow bottom end knocking noise appeared!! oh no!

if anyone knoows or could give me information on what has gone wrong and why i would aappriciate it. also i am fairly mechanicly minded and have done many engine rebuilds on smaller less complicated motors than this 1, looks like quite a task to remove 1 of these motors! is it possible to replace the big end shells from beneith the car thru the sump? also can the gearbox be removed to check thrust washer and clutch plate without removing the whole motor.

sorry for the essay and i appriciate i am new here, but any help would be great as i really cant afford to put her into a garage to do the work but dont want her to die!!!!

many thanks

that's not usually the result of normal driving. Nothing in your narrative suggests you caused this. When's the last time you checked your oil? If you neglected that and uncovered the pickup on your "test run" that would explain trashing the bottom end.

you can pull the transmission w/o removing the motor. but........... since its knocking pull the motor as well.

pull the pan, pull the number 6 rod cap and check the bearing. its gonna be trashed.. so its time for

a used long block

rebuild

you choose ;)

This is an RB question. It belongs in the RB forums.

People, read the stickies at the top. They are there for a reason.
