Just curious as to what the used car market is like in japan for Skylines, specifically the BNR32 and ECR32, but also interested in the newer generations. I've heard several times, "Oh you can get blah blah for less than a thousand bucks in Japan!..." but would like to know what its really like there. Basically, if I were on extended vacation in Japan how much could I expect to pay for a good condition R32, on average. What would the taxes be like and how would one register the vehicle temporarily?

You realize that being on "extended vacation" will not let you purchace a car through a dealer? The only way you could buy a car would be to buy through a private seller. Dealers won't let you buy a car if you are not a resident of the country. You also have to prove that you have a parking space rented before they let you go with the car. Also, if the car doesn't have sha-ken or if the sha-ken is close to coming due, you'll pay for that as well.

Just giving you a heads up.

If you don't live there then you can't purchase a vehicle. But if you are curious the average price for a GTS/GTS-t 33 or 32 is $5k from a dealer.
