Skyline Owners in California

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to know if anyone owns a Skyline in California. If so, did you get it titled and registered? I just had some dialogue with someone for fast4wheels.com--these guys say their Skylines are only 49 state legal. I found out California does not accept the VIN's. Sorry if this topic has already been covered.

i've asked the guys over at sky-kit regarding this and all they can suggest is to register it under your relatives out of state for three years and transfer it over to ca due to some grandfather clause.....i think it could be done some other way but many will tell you that THE only way is to get a motorex skyline........and these people are usually motorex skyline owners

Yes I have one. The DOT issued a policy statement in April which allow all Motorex :federalized" Skyline [100 or so R32s/R33s] to be honored in spite of the shananigans involved. I got mine from RBmotoring, a legal spin off Motorex. The car had been register in Cal and has DOT/EPA/CARB certification badges. I transfered title with a Smog certificate at my local DMV, got plates, tags with no hassle. Insurance was a breeze since it had been orginally registered in CAL and was first issued CARB cert at a Referee station and is so stated on the Smog cert. If you want to find one, you must buy one of the 100 or so that were originally register in CAL. RBmotoring.com will occasionally buy back one for resale, that's how I found mine. I was lucky but I have many inside contacts at Nissan NA who made me aware of this car. I have no troulbe with police/CHP since they are aware of the DOT's position. Believe me, an R32 with 500+whp on pump gas is, to me. the ultimate. Hope this helps. If you know where Poway is, I would be glad to show you mine and give you a ride! E-Mail me , if interested
