I've read all about the intercoolers that will fit with a SR20DET front clip swap, but I was wondering if you could fit a Skyline GTR intercooler instead of a Blitz or Greddy. Anyone ever done this before?

Thanks

i skyline GTR FMIC i would imagine will fit. You probably have to make custom brakets, and most definatley custom piping. i want to run one on my car when i get enough money .

Sure ya can. I have a starion FMIC on mine, true you do need custom piping and custom brackets but it's worth it, it's sleeper and is sometimes better!

I love the sleepy eyes. You have a Pivot or did you adjust the motor for the picture? Thats a good condition s13. cant really tell if you have nice wheels on it though.

I remember seeing a S14a on the cover of import tuner over a year ago that had a Skyline GTR intercooler on it. The car was black and had a tomei built race motor installed. It was a really nice car.

As for the Skyline FMIC's.. you can go to http://www.xs-engineering.com and purchase there Skyline core which measures:

Skyline 2-row Power I/C (24”x11”x3”) - $519.00 - For up to 600hp

Skyline 3-row Power I/C (24”x11x4.13”) - $629.00 - For up to 800hp

Skyline 4-row Power I/C (24”x11x4.75”) - $749.00 - For up to 1000hp

Keep in mind that the price above is only for the cores... the End-tanks are extra or you can have some custom made at a fabrication shop.I know a few people running Skyline cores in there SRswapped 240s here in Florida

Sorry to say this, but NONE of the IC's posted (either the pic of David's or the pics from XS) are skyline intercoolers. They are Spearco tube fin cores that are about the same size of a skyline IC.

The core on the skyline has a lot smaller tubes runnin through it, it's slightly smaller in size, has 3in inlet and outlets, and the overall apperence is quite a bit different.

Now, that said JMS useually sells 'real' GTR cores for around 400 USD plus shipping from AU. I'd save my money and just go with a nice tube fin spearco core like David has for around 400, then drop another 50 into making some end tanks and have a bigger, badder, better core for about the same money.

The skyline core is also fairly thin, at least when compaired to the other units.

Who else makes high quality intercoolers for the 240sx? One that handles up to 400-500 hp w/ as little lag as possible. Actually, up to 400 would be just fine. I'm really looking for streetable power...

What about using a a bar and plate intercooler. Do any of you have any opinion on these? I have heard that they are alot better than the tube fin.

commonly used here. Considering GTR owners often upgrade (no idea why ;) ) to a bigger intercooler, a stock GTR intercooler can be had for around $250-$300.

BUT the cost of custom piping here quickly makes it about the same as having bought the specific HKS (or whatever make) intercooler and mounting kit....

Most tuning shops will encourage a person to just get the kit that is easier to fit in, as it will save a small amount of money and a lot of headache.

Japan is weird. Custom or rebuilt....are two words that they just don't like. No such animal as getting your turbo rebuilt here....

The XS-Engineering skyline cores flow REALLY good. Turbo magazine had a GReedy FMIC on there project Galant VR4 and they took it off and put on an XS-Engineering skyline core and gained 4psi... So the Greedy has bad pressure drop. I plan on buying an XS-Engineering Skyline core to upgrade from my Starion FMIC as soon as i get my new turbo.

Just my .02

So after welding end-tanks on, this intercooler will fit in a 93' 240sx front end? How much modification will be needed when I throw on a silvia front end? A couple posts back someone said the cores of these intercoolers are thin, isn't that good? Less lag correct?

Thanks a lot for answering to this post, it's been really helpful so far...
