This seems like a strange/rare question, but I need a serious answer.

Has anyone ever attempted this? My car came with a retrofitted GTR suspension setup, however now the front are blown, and I need a replacement.

The car is a 1992 Nissan President Sovereign.

The car originally had active, but was disconnected and plugged.

I'm now considering my options for suspension, and by doing alot of searching on this site, I've deemed it worthwhile to not resurrect the active suspension, and go with a standard setup. Which setup, is the question.

The rear GTR struts bolt up no problem actually, but its the fronts I have issues with. The shop that threw on this suspension fabricated a crappy ball joint on the front struts which has ripped apart and is falling off. Oh, and I mentioned the struts are blown

The upper mount for the strut works fine, it's the lower ball joint on the GTR strut is too small for the threaded bolt on the knuckle arm.

I've actually tried to fit GTR knuckle arms on the car, which seemed to line up fine, and bolted all up, but once mounted, the front camber was far too negative to be safe.

My options as I see it are:

- Have a fabrication shop bore out the old joint on the strut and weld in a new one that fits the knuckle arm (rubber bushing might be a problem)

- Have a fabrication shop weld on a smaller threaded bolt onto the knuckle arm

- Use Tokicos with lowering springs

Now, the last option seems simplest, but because I'm looking for adjustability in height because my car is "VIP-styled", the GTR coilovers would be awesome to have for that reason. With the Tokicos, I'd be stuck with a set height.

Now this is probably a crazy crazy post/idea/project, but I've been racking my brain, my shop is getting as frustrated as I am, and I'm running out of time because I need my car on the road.

Any help is appreciated! And please seriously consider what I've said, because I am serious about what I want to do with this car.

Oh, and when I get time I will likely do a proper conversion and rip out all the active suspension components, and sell them to anyone on here who needs them

Thanks,Brendan

r32 gtr suspension supposedly bolts in. z32 suspension fits with minor modding.

The rears bolted right in. The front don't fit in the lower bushing, the knuckle arm is too big

hmmm... i have a couple theories of why that might be but nothing concrete. why not just buy coilovers made for the car?

Turns out there was a change in the Active suspension on G50's in 7/92. The knuckle arms, for whatever reason, have a bigger knuckle. Great.

Looks like GTR coilover may bolt up ok, but they might be too short.

Its the same situation with Z32 front shocks then. OEM Z32 fr. shocks are about 2-3" shorter than Q45 shocks. The lower strut mount uses a different bushing/sleeve between models.

90-93 G50 is small90-96 Z32 is small89-94 R32 is small ?not sure?94-96 G50 is big

Just carefully press out your G50 bushing and press it into the shock you wanna use.

I considered doing just that, but I run the risk of wrecking the bushing in the shock I'm using by pressing it out. Also, no one sells just the bushing from the bottom of the strut. It usually comes with the strut, I've looked and can't find a place that sells just bushings.

What kind of suspension are you running, Japino? I like the look.

Thanks Rex for linking the thread!

I've taken off the stock Z32 springs and put in a G/C sleeve kit. I went lower + stiffer.

Ha, of course you don't need a reminder. I'm sure when you have to ask people for rides you don't forget about your Q outside, unfinished.

Honestly, I've subscribed to your thread to prepare myself for my own underplenum job. You do a decent job taking pics and documenting what you're doing. That plus the input from the other senior members of the Q community makes your thread 'bookmark' worthy. Sift through all the BS and there's actually a good amount of info in there.

Also, stop taking people too seriously on the forum/web. Who cares if so many people have told you to fix your car. Get that thing fixed not for others but for yourself! Plus, you make yourself a target for 'haters' when you get upset or say you're gonna buy a bunch of parts for your car when it isn't even running. All they're gonna see is 'young guy broke his car and wants to put coilovers on it'. Get what I'm saying?

Actions speak louder than words and your thread was full of action. Making me a believer and s**t.

edit: Your question was answered, latest pic is in my signature. My first post in this thread shows it.

Car looks great, japino. I tried to fit GTR suspension on my President but it's a no go, even though I have it already on my car. The fronts are too short for some reason...so I wonder how you get away with it with Z32 struts...it must be the stock springs.

I ended up ordering a conversion kit from Joe and some Cali springs from a member on the board.

Setup should be great!

Yeah I know I don't let's say I have some type of ADHD hahaha...... You'll see if we ever meet at a car meet.Yeah I know alot of people say It's helping them.BlackonBlack was hated by me but hey he came handy and plus I like how his car turned out.Maybe he was mad because his was being done right want wanted me to do the same.

Well I haven't really updated anything so I need to take more pictures. I stuck my hand in the plenum to take pictures lol.I though it was gonna get stuck.I tried recording it while sliding the camera in the plenum but it didn't work. Well I'll have to update the pictures now since others booked it.

Now to stay on topic the Z32 suspension is the same as the Q45 and should be somewhat as the president. It's just shorter and some adjustments will be needed like thejapino said.Well keep us posted on what you do.

Can't wait to get my car running.I just just one vacuum hose and knock sensors which I maybe get this week hopefully. I miss my car.

Oh I'll post up on how I do my leak down test to hopefully it's not so bad since it overheated.
