If anybody really wants to know about this rear end I have researched this to death so to speak........ You can ask anything about this and there is a good chance I will know it........LOL.....as far as I am concerned the best thing to do is purchase a ring and pinion and forget these rear ends. That way you can can keep your ABS sensors etc.

A clarification on the housing snout..........Even though the rear end is shorter on the snout the G50 companion flange will go in....you have to take the reluctor wheel off the flange and make sure you have a pinion seal and press it on.

The rear ends DO NOT have a crush sleeve as I was told by Infiniti...I have two rear ends apart and all it is , is a sleeve like a Chrysler rear end housing. Pretty straight forward rear end and easy to rebuild. I had bearings gone in both housings. I would suggest anybody take a good look at the bearings.

You should pull the ring gear out and torque the pinion to a specific preload since you really cant check it with the ring gear in place. Resinstall the ring gear and then you are safe.

I actually think this a perfect MOD for these cars. They are starving for gear and even if you have a 4.37 gear its like a 3.00 final ratio which is nothing to speak of. The overdrive gear ratio is perfect for this mod.

A 4.08 will give you a 2.88 final gear ratio

With an engine that runs to 7500 rpm it is quite happy at normal speed limits for cruising.

My goal is to reduce the 0 to 60 time down to well under 6 seconds maybe even 5 with a torque convertor and some good dry traction tires.

That will run with the best stuff out there that cost many many times more money than what we have invested.

A 4.37 ratio and a 90-93 trans with the 2.78 gear will rip your head off and lets you make that 2nd gear shift before 60 MPH. I feel as it stands it could rip off a 5 second 0 to 60 time

Add a torque convertor for even more mutiplication and I dont think anything will touch it and that includes the so called hot BMW's

I have over 35 years of serious hard core drag racing expericance and this engine is the modern version of the small block chevy 283.

Many of you may or may not know but that was one of the first hot rod engines to make 1 hp per cube.

I think this VH45 makes alot more power than that....That chevy was a crude engine compared to this engine.

True, but how important is WOT acceleration from a standing start in everyday driving? And who wants to be turning 3500 rpm to go 80 mph when 2500 will do?

All depends what you want. I still like Sijoko's idea of adapting the GM 6 speed auto, then we could have it all.

But in reality, whats the chances anyone is gonna put a GM 6 speed trans in a Q45? The trans alone is worth more than even the nicest G50 in the country..

I think for his purposes the Q is just a toy rather than a mode of transportation, so gas mileage and stuff isnt a big deal...

But for me they are daily drivers.

Still too good a car to trivialize.

Actually using them for their intended purpose, now there's a concept!

A gear and a convertor is a piece of cake and can be a dailey driver...I think you dont realize how simple a mod that is....and it does not and will not ruin the driveable factor.I never drive over 70mph on the freeway......thats what 2700 rpm or so...no big deal...

But what may simple to you, because you have the equipment, knowledge and willingness is hard to others.

But good luck and if you still need a differential I have one but it came from a car that had traction control with 137K miles oil wasn't bad (Not bad smelling or black).

The only issue I have with my 3200 dragon tc is when it's cold (the transmission)She will stall. Other than that it's pretty manageable as a driver. But I do 1 to 2K a year.

Actually snatch a 4:08 ring and pinion from a 300 na turbo and install in your current case. You can do it without a shim.

Why not let the car fully warm up then?

Actually there are many Torqe convertor companies that can change the convertor....you need a small one with not much pitch to the vanes...keep the stall speed down but bring up the torque multiplication......that is called a tight convertor.........wont slip much but will mutiply the torque...being a small engine this is what it needs..

Or pulled over by the cops here to see what's wrong with you.

The G50 is at its best out west on the highways.

Typical, non rush hour speeds on Balt/Wash beltways is 80-85 MPH, which means I drive 85-95 MPH- every single day.I bet my Q has seen more highway time at speeds over 80mph than under, during its lifetime.

Valentine One has allowed me to remain ticket free since 1991 {about 400,000 miles of driving}
