It's a model that was never marketed as a sport compact. It has the stigma of a basic commuter. Like it or not, that's what it is. If there was a sport model from the factory things would've been different. The factory sport package doesn't count as it is nothing more than a appearance package.
There is little marketing effort to change or skew the Versa image towards "performance" for "fun". They tried very early on but it was short lived (2 weeks at best). Recall the original TV ads, they focused on space, mpg and value; not things you'd associate with sport compacts. Until that perception changes (which would lead to demand) you won't seen much happening in the after-market. And, as an insider, I don't see any change in the marketing message and positioning anytime soon.
The only way to make things happen is through grass-roots efforts. Take matters into your own hands and start making stuff or get organized and actively lobby companies (lists of buyers with cash in hand). That is how the sport compact scene started.
